: big tires, no lift
jmg343 02-24-2005, 12:13 AM anyone have pics of their truck, or someone elses, with 285s or 305s, or even bigger tires on it and no lift. I want to see how big I can go before lifting and what it will look like. I already did a search but couldnt find any good pics.
thanks
jake
J-HEFF 02-24-2005, 12:32 AM Just wanted to let you know I run 285's right now, but I did a torsion bar crank and add-a-leaf. Total cost was about 150 dollars. Anyway, as far as stock goes it will be a little hard to fit the 285's. You'll rub here and there, in the front. Back should be just fine. If you want I will attempt to get a picture of what mine looks like with the 2inch. Plenty of room for 285's to 315's. Hope this helps a little.

jmg343 02-24-2005, 12:36 AM yea those pics'd be great. does going up 2" in the back and cranking your t bars get you level? Ive got my t bars pretty cranked right now and Im just level, I think if I went up 2" in the rear id be stinkbuggin big time.
J-HEFF 02-24-2005, 12:52 AM I like the way my truck sits with the add-a-leaf, the rear does stick up a little further than the front but I like it that way since I usually have weight back there. Right now i have nothing on it but a headache rack and tool box, and I think it looks fine. You'll be able to fit 285's with no problem if you have a torsion crank already. Mine are all the way and I clear them with ease. I'm acctually thinking about going to a 315 in the future. 285's looke okay though, i'll try to get a pic for ya as soon as I can, i'm a little limited on getting a pic but I think I can do it.
Later,

dwrat 02-24-2005, 12:55 AM 305 - 55 - 20 about a 33 1/2" tire 20http://img185.exs.cx/img185/4899/copyofdura155ws.jpg
jmg343 02-24-2005, 12:58 AM nice. thanks.
J-HEFF 02-24-2005, 01:01 AM Hey DRWAT, is that just a torsion on there?
dieselrcr337 02-24-2005, 01:10 AM 315's stock wheels no lift.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v68/mr.zombie/burnout2.jpg
_nar_ 02-24-2005, 01:22 AM I haven't cranked or done anything but tie the fender back in front on the driver's side where the reservoir for the washer fluid pushes it out a little.
_nar_ 02-24-2005, 01:26 AM It looks a little like the front end is up in that picture, but it's not, I just had the camera a little tilted. It sits with the front end down a bit. I may crank it and put in an add a leaf sometime, but for now it works fine.
J-HEFF 02-24-2005, 01:30 AM rcr337- NICE SMOKE!!
nar- Did you ever have any problems with those tires hitting the top of the fender well?? Thats the only issue I ever had really when running 285's with no torsion crank. Like the corn field pic!!!
_nar_ 02-24-2005, 02:30 AM They don't hit the fender top, that I have noticed anyway. When you get some ice frozen in there, or a bunch of mud built up they make some noise on that. Just kick it off and it's better then.
I have lots of pics of tractors and fields and stuff, not near enough of my truck. I'll have to fix that...
BK Tool 02-24-2005, 05:39 AM 305 - 55 - 20 about a 33 1/2" tire 20MB Wheels? Who makes them. They look good. Any chance of a close up of both the rims and the tread patten of the tires?
TIA

haneym 02-25-2005, 09:08 AM ill try and post pics tonight (theyre on my home computer not here at work). i just got my 285s on monday and took pics when i got it home. when i first got the truck, i cranked the tbars a little to try and level the truck. i hate 4x4s that sit nose down! i raised my front end to where its only 1/2" lower than my rear (ground to top of wheel well height). after the 285s, i did absolutely nothing and have not had them rub once. i have been on a couple construction site trails, but no offroading yet. i have turned full lock each way and no rubbing.
redneck45 02-25-2005, 01:33 PM I get a kick out of guys spending 2 grand for a 4 inch lift and still can only run a 33" tire. Usable ground clearance is a direct function of tire size. If I was gonna lift, I would go atleast 6" so I could at least get a bigger tire under it!
dutch 02-26-2005, 11:22 PM 305's with no lift. Just cranked the front bars a little to level the truck and give me a little more ground clearance.
They do rub a little when turning short. Not enough to cause any problems though.

btfarm 02-28-2005, 01:21 PM Traded in '03 2500HD Big Block/Allison std LB last Fri 2/25 for '05 2500HD Dmax/Allison ext SB. Put BFG AT 285/75 on alloy rims. up 5 rounds on T bars. One you reset caster to factory spec the only clearance problem is about 1/4" to air dam, but no rubs anywhere.
