on ' 82 suburban when i turn the ignition on i can hear the relay click on & off but the dash light does'nt go on, except when i jump the relay then then gp dash light goes on . i'm think a short or wire grounded

sounds like the relay is shot. you can pick one up for $25. it'd be a good time to install a manual switch as well, IMO
