Hey guys, I have a little issue with my truck. About 2 weeks ago I got some bad fuel, got a water in fuel message. I added K100, kept draining the fuel filter (I was on the road), and managed to work the bad fuel through it without it ever dying. Since then however, I have an intermittent miss at idle, sometimes when at a stoplight the idle doesn't drop down for 3-5 seconds (it sits around 1000rpm, you can hear it fighting the brakes), and it seems to smoke a lot more than a stock truck should. It also seems to be a little louder (engine wise) than before. Oh and one other thing, my display shows outrageous mpg and range figures, like 24mpg highway and 575 miles to empty (hand calculated 17mpg). The miss and hanging idle both come and go as they please. My edge is off the truck, and I took it to the dealer yesterday and they reflashed it, but that didnt do anything. Anyone have any ideas what this could be? Thanks!
Mike

Sorry if this seems like a dumb question...you changed the fuel filter after all that right? Seems lots of guys have to go through multiple filters in this scenario.

Probably still has contamination, if it had water who knows what else.....gasoline?? I'd first change the filter and see what happens.

Yeah I changed it once, but I guess maybe I'll try another one. I dont have a check engine light or anything. A dirty fuel filter doesnt seem like it would cause black smoke...

Well it could be a bad injector(s) check those out to

I asked my dealer to check them, he said to try the reflash first... grrrr. I have been around diesels my whole life and thats what it seems like to me. Could water damage them?

Yes it could, that is one of the biggest reasons I added the airdog fuel pump with the extra water seperator and extra filter. Takes out the air, debris and water. Anything that is not pure fuel will cause extra wear under the super high pressures in these trucks.

X2 but I have a Kennedy twin pump filter combo that does the same thing but yes it could cause bad injectors and lead to costly repairs later down the road

Water in the fuel will take the injectors out faster than a cat can lick it's a$$. If just a little water makes it to the injectors it more times than not will nock the tips off the injectors.

Really? That seems a little odd to me, that one exposure to water could ruin the injectors... but who knows....

I put 2 gallons of water in my truck when it had 1000k miles on it. It was supposed to be Jet Fuel and my idiot self did not pump the barrel first. After it died, about 20 sec after I cranked it. I stood for almost two hours pumping the primer until fuel started coming out again. Then I cranked the truck and started the crank, run, die game. All in all it took about 4 hours to get it to run. The joy of being in the middle of no where. This was before I did the Nicktane filter too. It took 4 tanks of fuel and 5 filters until it ran normal. Yes a clogged filter will make black smoke. When it skips it turns white. I will drop the tank if it happens to me again. Much cheaper and easier. I run alot of Jet A in my truck and it has 40k miles on it now. My worst injector is a 2.8. After all the water mess my worst injector was 1.
