I have a 97 gm ext cab k1500 w/240000km, my knowledge of the diesel is very limited, my truck has decent power and economy, its pretty much stock with the convertor and muffle off, but i have noticed that it doesnt really "take off" until around the 2200 rpm level then it pulls hard, is there anything i can check or change to help this, or any simple mods that can be done to improve the engine.....thanks

Are you keeping up on your basic manintenence? Fuel/Air/Oil Filters mainly. Once you verify that everything is functioning normally, Supply pump pressure, IP CTime and TDC Offset etc., then you can go for disabling the EGR and upgrading the exhaust. That will wake your truck up.

I have just had the truck in the shop and it was checked over and everything was supposed to be working properly, so what do i do with the exhaust(what size is req'd) and as far as the egr, i get a code that comes up from the egr, and i was told it is because i dont have any back pressure in my exhaust, and if i put a free flow muffler on the code wouldnt show up, or how do i get rid of the egr?? thanks for now..

You can disable it easy and you can remove it with a little work , if you don't have to have it for inspection, that is. The ECM looks for ~20" vac at baro off egr solenoid, that's the thrid one back. with out the right vac, ses light will stay on. I think the easiest disable is to put a threaded bolt in the egr's vac line.

Remove the upper plenum and inspect the accrudation (sic). The EGR will make a mess of the intake.

a turbo master might help your probelm a little, but u wont get its full effect unless u have some type of chip or in your case a reflash
