i'm goin to be doing my first fluid change tomorrow and was wondering what fluid to use? Royal Purple, Amsoil, Transyn? any one better than other? also how hard is this to do i have the external filter, aside from that do you need to drop pan? or just drain, change external filter, and fill? any info would be great appreciated

Take out drain plug in pain and external filter. Replace plug and filter. Fill filter before replacement. Should be a magnet on the filter take off and be sure to replace on new filter. Takes about 7.5 to 8 quarts to refill. Look at dip stick should say use dex III only. That is what the LB7 years should take.

use DexIII or transynd from Allison or even the copy from scamsoil.

You probably won't find anything still labeled Dexron III. Transynd is probably the best choice, along with other TES-295 rated ATF.
Personally, I like Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF. It says Mercon on the front label and in small print on the back it says for pre-2006 GM, which means Dexron III.
For us with "older" Allisons, I would shy away from Dex VI.
