Today in my 05 3500 when I was towing my trailer and got to my delivery, I noticed that the DIC milage changed, down like a rock from 11.7 to 5 in the matter of a minute, I have never noticed this before. As soon I started driving again it came back up but at every stop sign it would do the same thing. Is this right or do I have a issue? Iam going to put my code reader on it later and see if I set any codes but WTF???

Were you monitoring it right after you filled up? Mine moves a lot at first but the more miles I put on it the slower the Avg mpg changes until I reset it. Then the cycle starts over again.

The average will be influenced more the less data it has, but as a general rule, the DIC can show you what habits you have that cost mpg. Warm up cycles in particular will cut the mpg back...

I thought adding any kind of after market tuner makes the DIC read incorrectly or be sporatic at best?? I see he has the Edge installed..
there are many threads about this very thing.

The J/A combo doesn't bother the DIC, the predator and like that reprogram the ECM mess w/ the DIC.
Marty, I'd just run it and see what happens.
How many miles do u have, the truck w/ low miles will take a while to build up enough of a base to get a true average.

I noticed the same thing on my avalanche. If you reset you DIC, and are sitting at a stop light (for instance) right after you do so, the fuel mileage just ticks away. My '04 diesel doesn't do it, but it also has an average, and an instant mpg readout, where my '05 Av doesn't. I suspect it has something to do with the fact that the vehicle reads 0mpg when your stopped, and it incorporates that into your average mpg, which really kills it. I hand calculated a tank, and the DIC ended up being accurate, it's just annoying to see you MPG slip away at a stop light. My solution was to change the DIC to the blank screen so I didn't have to look at it
