: Paint textured flares or buy new ones?

I have the textured flares on my black truck and I would like to switch to smooth black painted flares. I like the way the painted ones look better and wax really sticks to the textured ones (Mothers back-to-black takes care of it for a while, but the wax residue comes back after a while).

Is it feasable to sand these smooth and paint them black? Or am I better off just replacing them?

Where can I find painted flares? I have looked around online a little and the only ones I have found have been over $400, which is more than I am willing to pay right now.

Thanks

EBAY has them for less than $200 I think. then you will have to get them painted to match.

just take your textured flares to a automotive paint shop... they should only charge you around $100-$150 to get them painted... You won't even notice they were textured when they are done.

Thanks for the replies guys.

gearhead, your right. There are some buy it now options for $160. Should have checked ebay sooner. Might have to go that route

I will have to see how much a shop would charge to paint the textured ones I have before I buy a set of smooth ones.

Any opinions on which way is better?

RyanG - believe it or not, a little peanut butter takes the wax off of the flares..:)

I sanded all of my flares, door handles, top of front bumper, and a few interior pieces and painted them to match my truck. Just takes a little time and patience for the sanding.

Yea, I have a couple but don't have a clue as to how to post them up. I tried to uplink them when posting but nothing happened. I would be glad to Email them and see if you can post them up.

What grit paper do you sand them with? Or how did you sand them?

I think I started with 400 with the DA, worked my way up. Finished with 1000, primed with zcrome(not sure on spelling) it helps with imperfections resanded (wet) paint. Be careful with the DA go very easy or you will make divot marks in the plastic, then ur screwed very slow is the key. Hard to reach areas like doorhandles have to be done by hand. You could buy the ones already painted from GM, but for around 100 worth of materials I have painted two trucks both had fender flared top of the front bumper, eight door handles two tailgate handles, and tons of interior pieces. Good luck.

I finally figured out how to put my pics up. They are in the "Lets see what your ride looks like" thread.
