My check engine light came on today, so i took it to my friend who owns a Scanner, it came up with a po181, which is a Temp sensor out of range I think, What is this, is this important, it came up last winter to, and I think the dealer said it was no big deal and erased it, should i get it fixed, and if so what needs to be fixed, thanks alot

There is an ECM reflash for this if the diagnostic steps for the code end up with no problem found. Have the dealer look at bulletin #02-06-04-058. If that is already done then they need to call technical assistance with certain info. GM engineering is collecting info to provide a fix.

Where besides the dealer can you retreive your truck's codes that are stored. If there is no SES light are there no codes ?

By any chance do you have the front grill cover on and use your block heater?? It is common for this combination to cause the P0181 code. I can set it on my 03 at will. Just don't have the time right now to get flashed for this.

InTentsDmax:

Autozone can read and erase codes for free on our trucks! SES light could go out and leave the codes stored for some time as I understand it.

Yeah i do have the grill cover on and plug it in, in my unheated garage.. If I get it reflashed will it fix this. And is there a way to make it not happen ever if the cover is on and pluged in?

I had the reflash on my 02 and never had another p0181 problem. I just wish they would get a fix for my LLY.

With the front cover on and plugged in you are probably setting 2 codes.
I can't rember the other one but it has to do with fuel temp 18 degrees different than coolant temp.

To solve the problem the front cover needs to be folded in on the intake side. You wil notice better power and no codes will set. I open up the other corner also when it gets warmer

Watch your temp gauge when towing! :grd:
