hi guys my brother is comparing the 6.0 and the 6.6 in a crew cab long bed 2500HD. he would like to know what other people are getting with gas mileage with the same setup with the 6.0. he wont be towing alot if at all so towing is not a concern just what do you guys average for everyday driving

crew cab, standard bed, 4x4, 6.0L, auto.
13.5 in town, 15 highway. nearly every tank has been the same since i bought the truck 6 months ago.
i dont have the diesel so i cant speak for them, but ive heard they are in the 16-17mpg range stock.

if he is not going to be doing towing, its not worth the money for the dmax upgrade. that is speaking from a purely financial standpoint. if he wants it, more power to him :ro) . scroll down and check out some of the recent posts (cant remember exact title). there was one recently where a few guys (myself included) put up mathmatical examples proving that you would have to drive the truck for well over 200k miles just to pay for the initial difference in price. the diesel will get slightly better mileage, but diesel is more expensive so they are almost even. just my opinion of course...

FWIW, my LB7 gets 20-25% better fuel economy (depending on summer or winter fuel) than my '00 2500 6.0 gasser did under similar driving conditions.

with my 6.6 i get bad miles now about 13mpg and with diesel higher prices i don't think you win plus you pay more at for that dmax

i was worried about fuel economy when i traded my 03 1500HD for the dmanx and i gotta tell ya, once you drive one around town.... the gas doesnt matter much. if your brother is into performance and straight power, the 6.0 is not where its at. hes better off with the 5.3 ... its on a 1/2 ton platform, and is almost 1000 lbs lighter than 1500/2500HD's If he wants a moddable beast... get the Dmax... what alot of people that comment on this forum regarding additional cost forget to include is the resale value of a 100,000 mile gasser vs. 100,000 diesel is very different. the diesel, regardless of brand is worth alot more.

I don't think I would risk having the 6.6 due to the problems that are developing. We travel in places where we cannot have an engine failure. When our 6.2 goes out then I will probably give the 6.0 consideration especially since diesel fuel prices are 30 % higher than gasoline.
