What is the best way to charge a breakaway battery?
Can I use my 12 volt battery charger on the 2 amp / trickle charge setting?

I know Tekonsha makes a charger that's inline with your battery on the trailer.

I don't understand your set-up.
My break away gets it's power from the trailer battery. When the rig is hooked, my trailer battery is charged from the truck bus via the 7 pin connector.
Normally, most trailers get the brake power during break-away from the trailer's on-board battery.
I guess there are some out there that use a separate DC supply. In that case, using a charger would depend on the type of battery used in that application.

Dave this is on a flatbed type trailer not a camper trailer.

Sorry,
If the break away unit is sealed then there may be a battery inside but that would make the unit pretty good sized.
I think any small trickle charger will work if the battery was a lead acid type. Due to the expense I doubt if there are any exotics like Lithium or silver.
I picked up a small computer charger that was made for boats from Wally World for about $15.00
