I have been using silicon sealer (RTV, Blue Goo, what ever your call it) in various forms on vehicles for years. Something I have always wandered about is the cure time as stated on the tube. “Skins in 1 hour, cures fully in 24 hours.” Or some such words. My question is: Do you allow your vehicle to sit around for 24 hours after putting it back together using silicon sealer? I know that the dealerships and Jo Shagnasty Auto Repair down the street don’t wait that long. What do you do?<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

If you want the max sealing ability of RTV then you have to wait the full cure time.

We use gm assembly adhesive at our gm dealer for most engine type sealing operations. Do use rtv for diffs and such. Answer to your question is no, nobody that I know of lets rtv cure for 24 hours.

like abiggs said, sometimes it barely gets an hour set time before engine running
