: "Battery Not Charging Light" still
05DMAX 02-22-2005, 11:40 PM I posted earlier about the battery not charging light coming when the dealer installed the change fuel filter program into the ECM. Well its still not fixed. We are now about 30 labor hours into the repair. The dealer is communicating directly with tech line for the repairs. A called today and they said they replaced the ECM and alternator, with no luck. They have tried messing with the programming, tearing apart the dash to check numerous grounds, and no luck this far.
I know some other people responded when I posted the original message. You pointed me towards the TSB out on this (thanks Max Payne), which the dealer found only because i brought it in (for some reason it wouldnt pop up when they searched but if they typed in the TSB number they could get it). Have any of you found anything out? Im sick of not having my truck.
Also, what if they cant fix it? What is the procedure for a buy back (hopefully it doesnt come to that)?
duramaximizer 02-23-2005, 11:48 AM do you have a junk battery?
JimmyDel 02-23-2005, 12:26 PM The calibration for the "change fuel filter" message to be displayed is not intentended for service. This calibration is only compatible with vehicles that have the new IP controller that I think went into production last week. If you slam this calibration into a vehicle with the old IP controller, you will get the "battery not charging" message and you won't be able to turn it off. There is a PI in the system that your technician can access that describes this condition.
To fix it, they need to re-program your ECM with the correct calibration.

Everything electrically is fine. Just the light is on.
Appearently it went out, just talked to dealer. The tech jumped some wire on the ECM to the alternator as instructed by tech line and it didnt work. He disconnected and all the sudden, no light. So hopefully it doesnt come back on. Not exactly the solution i was hoping for but if its off and stays off, ill be happy.
D/A Power 02-23-2005, 03:54 PM I had this exact issue when the dealer reflashed my PCM to adjust fuel rail pressure for smoke noise etc. and the Fuel Temp sensor code (P0181). Immediately the 'not charging' light came on they could not get it off, so they kept it all day until GM TAC sent over a new program via satellite. See if they can call TAC and use this case number (7916119) to help point them in the right direction. I just had it done on 1/12/05 - My order says that John at TAC is aware of the concern.
Let me know if it helps.
05DMAX 02-23-2005, 07:11 PM Alright, got the truck back, however, for some reason the tech cut my high idle wire, and even when i hold the wire to power i dont get the standby 800 RPM. Any ideas? Is there something with this new ECM that needs activated? I just cant stay away from this dealer.

Weird that it changed from 800RPM standby when i flipped the switch and now i dont get the standby.

It appears to have worked whatever they did. Hell now i have a new PCM and alternator too, lol. Ill refer to this should it come back on. Thanks alot
D/A Power 02-23-2005, 09:02 PM No problem - I'm glad you got it resolved.
DZL Man 02-23-2005, 11:12 PM Going through the same thing myself. I have some buddies that work at a Saturn dealership. They can also reflash the computer there. I figured it would be a quick and easy way to get it done and wouldn't have to pull and of the mods off to take it in. Immediately the "battery not charging" came up. They looked up the code and it refered them to the GM tech phone number. To make a long story short, now I have to go throught the GM dealer to get it fixed. -:t
aegis 02-23-2005, 11:27 PM My 05 does this also. I have checked the batts and the alternator and everything is working ok. My dealer could not figure out the problem so I have not worried about it. If someone has a definate cure rather than tear everything apart and guess ,,I might ask the dealer to check it again. I was concerned at first but now I just disregard the warning. We load tested both batts and checked the output of the alternator with everything on and it was at spec.
UncleFester 02-24-2005, 08:35 AM I had this happen to mine about a month ago when the dealer reflashed my 05LLY for smoke, smell and knocking issues. They checked everything including the gauge console for problems, eventually decided it was the Truck Body Control Module. (GM refers to as TCM, rest of the world refers to as BCM.) They ordered a new one - when they replaced it that resolved it. Couple of interesting notes...
1. I posted on this when it happened - and recalled John Kennedy posting that he saw the same thing on one of his trucks when he reflashed it that day - reversing the flash took care of it. (my dealer said they tried this and it didn't work.) Wondering if they shorted something (static?) and smoked the BCM.
2. WRT to high Idle - I noticed that most of the custom settings on my 05 get set back to factory..like high idle setting is off, etc. Had to re-enable it after the flash as well as after the new BCM.
JimmyDel 02-24-2005, 09:25 AM If the "Battery not charging" message comes on after a re-program, then the wrong calibration was used by the technician. All that needs to be done to fix this, is to re-program again with the correct calibration. Ask the technician to do a search in SI for P0622, and it will come up with this PI#. PIP3293A - (Jan 13, 2005). This tells him to contact technical assistance who will tell him which calibration to use to fix this.

I brought in the TSB off of this forum, they were in contact with techline the whole time. I guess mine was different because even after techline had the tech at the dealer installed the "updated" stuff it was still on. After forever and lots of parts "it just went out". Oh well, its still off, im happy.

I noticed that too, evertime i get it back from the dealer and they did some programming stuff, the elevated idle is off on the DIC. I was refering to the manual high idle (the mod in which you activate the PTO through the ECM) not working. However, it works, just different, i no longer get the standby 800 RPM when I flip the switch.
Thanks for all the responses.
Mark_my_word 02-24-2005, 03:40 PM Aegis,
I believe the 'battery not charging' message will display on the DIC and stay on if a reflash is not done correctly. That is what is being discussed in this thread.
If not related to a reflash, the 'battery not charging' message will briefly display and go away sometimes when you start up. If it briefly displays and goes away at startup this is normal. Mine has always done this. I'm sure you can find other threads on this with a search.
Mark
