: Van RPM
Aaron Steinblock 06-25-2008, 11:40 AM I always thought that my van seemed to be 'screamin' when it was highway speed. I FINALLY got my gauges put on yesterday (Edge Insight). Here's the specs I found so far:
RPM @ 60mph 2000!!!!!!!!! wow!
Boost @ 60mph on flat surface, unloaded - 7.2 ??? that seems high
Load @ 60mph on flat surface, unloaded - 32% this seems high too
MPG @ 60mph on flat surface, unloaded - 12.1 this seems way too low or the calculations are off in the unit
EGT probe is going in over the weekend, so I'll have those numbers after that.
My only guess on why the numbers are 'off' like this is that these vans are BRICKS at highway speed. The MGP thing can't be right since we are getting waaaay more than 250ish miles per tank.
ShopSpecialties 06-25-2008, 12:07 PM First of all do not go by the Insight for MPG. My last tank was 22 MPG hand calc. RPM is correct. Your numbers seem fine compared to mine.
chillman1971 06-26-2008, 05:29 PM Hey SS what did you do to get your mileage to 22? What was it before your mods?
ShopSpecialties 06-26-2008, 05:58 PM I am running about a 50 horse tune right now. Deep trans pan with syn. Stanadyne every tank. Remove extra crap that impedes airflow. I know this might sound stupid but I think the bumper helps. A few tanks ago I hit 23 MPG. I know last Summer I was always around 20-21 MPG. If I ever get my 4" turbo back exhaust done and put on my big tune I will be shooting for 25 MPG.

If you can keep off the throttle long enough:D
lotsofmiles 07-13-2008, 09:40 AM nice to see another carpet cleaner in here...
Not to change the thread, but, how do you like those ud's?
I've been looking hard for a Mitsu fuso/Isuzu npr/or ud to switch to form my express van
Aaron Steinblock 07-29-2008, 09:54 AM I LOVE the UD's. I think I would take the Fuso over it though, if I had the choice. Personally, I'd LOVE LOVE LOVE to see them in the Internation Cab-Overs (my dealer/repair center for them is 4 blocks away versus two hours for the UD).
The UD drives better than our panel vans ever did. And we have never had any down time since we bought both units (3 years).
lotsofmiles 07-29-2008, 10:14 AM I kinda stuck on trying to find a mitsu, but I think I'm going to take whatever I can find at a decent price. Thanks for the info
ShopSpecialties 08-01-2008, 12:44 AM Hey Aaron, did you ever get your EGT probe in ?
Aaron Steinblock 08-15-2008, 05:52 PM Yeah, I put it in a couple weeks ago. The bad part: the only spot I could get access to put it in was on the exhaust pipe (way-post turbo) at the passenger side, under the engine. I think my exhaust is cooling off a LOT because I'm seeing around 400 cruising on the highway????????????
Joey D 08-15-2008, 06:57 PM I drilled mine in the drivers side exhaust manifold from under the truck, did the Hoot method and worked fine.
ShopSpecialties 08-15-2008, 08:10 PM What kind of temps are you seeing Joey ?
Joey D 08-15-2008, 09:40 PM What kind of temps are you seeing Joey ?
I can't recall what EGT at what speeds but I have hit 1300 a few times. I will have to get some specifics, at 65 at 75 and around town
chillman1971 09-04-2008, 07:11 PM Joey, Where on the drivers side exhaust did you mount it? I just looked to mount mine and I only see one very small spot at the rear of the manifold just before it crosses over the back of the engine. The rest is covered by a heat shield.
Joey D 09-04-2008, 11:24 PM Drivers side on the rear of the manifold like your seeing. I drilled up from the bottom.
chillman1971 09-07-2008, 04:05 PM I finally mounted the exhaust temp probe. I put it on the rear passenger side manifold, I removed the passenger side splash guard to drill and tap it. I removed about a 1/4 inch from the corner of heat shield so the mount would not make contact with the shield. I routed the probe to the front of the doghouse and trimmed a spot in the plastic piece to route the cable through and over the doghouse. Idle in park exhaust temp 323 degrees and in gear 434 degrees.:D
Big Windy 09-08-2008, 09:24 AM Which mfg gauge ? Where did you mount the gauge ? Is the cable electric or copper tubing ? I would buy one if it is wire , tubing seems to be a pia .
chillman1971 09-08-2008, 04:19 PM It is the Edge Insight with the egt probe. I placed it on the dash by the pillar.
