Ok mine's running 30 after it warms up. I'll stop worrying now.

Spec is 42PSI at 1800 RPM. All the trucks should easily make that. I would guess that the 5w-40 losses some pressure when hot.

The newer Duramax's (2006 on?) have a high volume low pressure oil pump. The more oil being pumped through the motor should make up for the pressure loss.

According to the gauge, around 60 when really cold, runs at about 40 hot

I have two LMMs. They are identical in terms of oil pressure. Sometimes they push up to 45psi for a while, for no apparent reason, but most of the time they run around 30psi

This topic really boggles me.

I had an '05 and like everybody else, I freaked at the oil pressure. I had hoped that for the new body style GM would have made the oil pressure guage point approximately straight up like every other guage when it is in the "normal" range.

Ah well, another hope squashed. :Wedgie:

I was also alarmed at first about my oil pressure, but it has never changed a bit when hot, towing etc. It has 15,000KM/9500Miles now with 13,500KM/8400Miles towing 10,000lbs. (I would also think straight up would be a better normal indication!)

My gauges are in Metric kpa, being a Canadian model. What are the marks laid out as in psi on the US trucks? 20/40/60? (never got around to figuring out the conversion) usually sits a bit above the first mark when hot, (or 200kpa), straight up is 400kpa, max is 800kpa, I am using AC/Delco 15w40 so far, time for synthetic soon!

Cheers, Andy :D

About 30 minimum and 65 max when warm.

all the duramax's have the same oil capacity pump....

they updated the 06+ pumps to have a left hand thread on the nut that holds the gear on.........but its the same pressure and flow.
