i was wondering how to not have they pilot injection turn off at 2500 rpm, i am trying to diagnose a clatter sound and want to rule out pilot enjection and if it safe to turn keep it on ?

Pilot injection turns off at 2500 rpm because there is no time to make two injection shots at high rpm. Why would you need pilot injection to stay on to diagnose a clatter? Seems you would want pilot injection turned off to determine if it is causing a clatter. You are going to screw up/alter injection timing if you try to force pilot and main when there is too little piston dwell at TDC to absorb both shots. Bottom line, pilot injection turns off because it is engineered that way and there's no reason to force it.

Trent,

You might try varying the RPM it goes off (read:lowering or raising). See the injection quantity table for details, set all value to 1 or more in the areas you'd like pilot on. Set quantity to zero where you'd like to turn it off.

thanks for the info guys, i was aware that it would push timing out so i was going to try it on a small or stock tune , the clatter seems to start at around 2500 so it was just a thought, i really think it might be an injector it seems to be under heavy load or high fuel pressure i need to log it to verify but its kinda hard to duplicate either wot or towing under heavy throttle, once again thanks for the info and advice

Can you not just check your injector balance rates then?

its not that simple injector rates are perfect, truck runs great it just has a clatter or ticking ( not like valve train )and not consistant enough( as far as like say 1 tick per revolution ) to be something engine related it starts under heavy load at about 2500 gets louder and faster but still sparatick as revs continue, does it with stock tune and larger ones, its almost worse with the stock one i can rev at 3/4 throttle to redline and not a peep :wtf:
