Can anybody tell me how to check if my truck has the PTO option? It's a '05 2500 Duramax, and I read on here that the '05 had the PTO as an option, but don't have any of that paperwork available.

Any help would be great.

Thanks.

The tranny has the ability to but only in the Chassis models, There is not enough room in the hd trucks.

My understanding was you could use a PTO in an hd with no bed. (Chassis cab)

OH NO anther PTO question!

GM is really confused on this particular point.
When you say "PTO" you mean 3 things, "a physical device that fits on the
truck that can do something useful", "a gear on the transmission that can
provide power to the device", and "a control system to provide constant speed".

Do the GM pickups have these? Yes, but not as easily as you might think. GM's
line is "no, the pickups do not have PTO", despite the fact that the aftermarket
sells PTO systems for pickups. This is like GM stating "there are no tires for pickups
other than the 245 series 16" tires that come stock" -- a line of BS.

On the 8.1 and Duramax pickups, almost all of them can use PTO equipment. A
batch of D/A pickups was made in March of 2004 without the PTO drive
gear inside the Allison. (Yes, I am sure; I have the ECO information and serial
numbers.) These pickups cannot use PTO equipment without removal and
disassembly of the Allison.

GM states that the "Cab + Chassis" trucks can have PTO. OK, but what if you
order a pickup with the "Bed Delete" option? No, that cannot have a PTO! Why?
Well, you can order a crew cab pickup with bed delete, but you cannot order a
crew cab "Cab + Chassis". Subtle difference? Not really; there is probably some
specific piece of PTO equipment that would hit the bottom of a crew cab.

The real answer depends very strongly on your equipment -- which truck cab configuration with which piece of PTO equipment. Generally you can run PTO
equipment, but not always.

One more thing. I just noticed GM added a code for PTO equipment in pickups starting Jan. 1, 2005. You can now order PTO equipment, no matter what your salesman says. There is no likelyhood you will find a PTO-equipped pickup on a lot, as this option is too new.

Thank you frank
what you said.
Not that it really makes any difference to me, I think my truck was built around this time. where can you get the serial numbers to the trucks without the inner gear.
Maybe a body lift would give enough clearance for pto pump install, who knows.
Thanks
Joe

On your 05, its not there, you will have to pull the trans and install a PTO drive gear on the rotating drum in the trans. Its just a reluctor wheel anymore.

Sounds like a business opportunity.
1) Make a D/A PTO drive kit including gear, puller, seals, gaskets,
whatnots and instructions.
2) Offer a D/A PTO drive installation service.

The ZF 6 has two PTO ports on it. The allison I think has 2 not sure though. Have 02 3500 mason dump and the place that you get the dump body installed at will put the PTO box in.

Never had a demand for a service. Too many variables to put a kit togather per say...
