I know this has been covered before and i search but could seem to find the answers i was looking for..
I'm going to be towing a car trailer that has electric brakes and need to hook them up to my 01 2500hd, i have read that there is a wire under the fuse box that need to be hooked up or something like that.
Also, by my factory tow hitch i have a blue wire hanging there, is that for electric brakes? do i need to buy a controler?
All my other vehicles hav already been set up so i never went through all of this..
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks

The blue wire is likely for the Center hi mounted brake light and is there for tieing in a brake light on a camper shell or similar item. You will need to buy a brake controller to activate the elec brakes on the trailer. If you have the factory wiring harness, it will work with all brake controllers, you just have to splice the correct wires.
I just bought Tekonsha Prodigy, they are on sale right now at most online sites since the P3 is their new offering. Spend an extra $12 or so and get the " plug&play" harness from them that plugs directly into their controller and into your truck elec control center under your steering column to the left of the brake pedal. No stripping/splicing wires and with the factory harness and std. harness from most controllers you havenearly 6' of wire to deal with. Plug/play harness is less than 18" and self coiling. It worked great for me and was installed in under 10 minutes.
The wire under the hood is, as I understand it, for aux 12v power to charge a remote battery(s) on a trailer. Doesn't sound like you'll need that for a car hauler. You don't need that either for powering trailer brakes.

bought the prodigy and also bought the prodigy wire harnest that plugs directly into the controler and terminal block in truck, sweet easy setup, plug and play.
For future reference, if i tow a travel trailer i will need to install a fuse in the fuse box and thats it? or do i have to move some wires on the termal blocks inder the hood at the fuse box?

Did you buy it through a vendor? How much did you pay for the controller and harness?
