Looking to do this so I can install an EGT probe

Any pics or instructions anywhere? Looked for awhile now....

Also, is there anywhere else this can be drilled and work just as well? I have heard about some mounting them on the outlet side of the turbo....

Thanks guys....

Nick

well you don't have to pull it off, there are many methods to do it. i like to use a bit of grease on a sharp drill bit. then grease on the tap as well. then use a small magnet and put it in the hole a few times to remove any large pieces that have fell in. after seeing no more large pieces put the probe in and start er' up.

You can tap it on the truck, or remove it. It is real easy to remove most do passenger side. You can also do a BD manifold on drivers side and that comes with predrilled spots for a EGT probe

Just as everyone mentioned about the passenger side manifold. I have had to do it both ways (both on and off the cylinder head) - my dually was purchased new, and I was able to remove the exhaust manifold easily, drill and tap; the 2500HD was purchased used and the number of heat cycles made it impossible for me to remove the flange bolts, so I drilled and tapped the manifold while it was on the head - I used a small telescoping magnet to retreive the shavings inside the exhaust manifold. Locate the flat spot just to the right of the first, upper manifold stud to drill and tap. Good luck.

Suggest that you go with the BD manifold as Bulldogger mentions. You also get rid of an exhaust restriction.

I was waiting for someone to chime in on the BD manifold, I just did mine, for that exact reason, got rid of the choke point, and did the pyro at the same time, and no fears of splitting the stock manifold when tapping it.
The BD manifold also has a pretapped port for the pyro probe.

What about the intake manifold anybody have a write up on that? I'm wanting to take mine off to clean it, thinking it might need cleaning.

How tough was the BD Manifold? How long did it take you?

I did mine on the truck. Left it running and drilled and tapped away. My first tap went in crooked and I thought I effed it up. Re-tapped it and it was fine. I sprayed Kroil on it the whole time too. There is a picture of my boost tap in my garage.

I just did without any picts (don't have any) in my other thread here http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?p=2718440#post2718440

Pictures of my drilled and tapped upper manifold here for my boost gauge

Don't know if it is a good spot or not yet. Another member's truck I saw in person had his tapped there, so I thought I'd do it. But I'm not sold yet that I am getting accurate readings.

Haulinbass, my buddy tapped for my boost in a different area...it's more on the front most part of the intake manifold to the left MAP sensor...I'll get some pics. It musta taken him 2 minutes total to drill and tap and we left the truck running...turbo sounded swwweet :D

We also did the BD exhaust manifold...very very easy. The hardest part is fitting your hands in the fenderwell to loosen all of the bolts that are on pretty tight.

For the EGT search the Hoot method. Good write up.

For the Boost Pressure I went with the SD Manifold. Easy install and allows for future upgrades.
