: It's not NOS but it's got a kick
sir veyor 02-22-2005, 06:13 PM Hi all,
Years ago I ran across someone who had modified their driveshaft in a gasser van. Using a switch on the dash, it'd lock the driveshaft or some driveline components together. (It's been several years and a real quick trip in the van).
I do know it wasn't supposed to be engaged until you're at a steady pace, but when it was engaed, the van picked up by a noticeable amount. It'd set you back in the seat a little. I'm toying with the idea of doing something similar, expecting to see a boost in highway MPG from it. I doubt it cost much to do yourself, based on what I knew of the guy.
Does anybody know of a setup like this? Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Sir Veyor
partsguy662 02-22-2005, 06:21 PM You're kidding about this, right? http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/confused.gif
Horse Trainer 02-22-2005, 06:25 PM 'Wonder if it was a switch to manually lock the Torque Convertor. I have one on my '97, but cannot attest to better fuel economy. Does keep the trans temps down a bit, as well as allowing better engine braking.
Burner 02-22-2005, 06:31 PM Sounds like he had some kind of Gear Vendor or a "splitter" in the drivetrain. If you had a 4:11 rear and could split that into a 3:55 or something then yeah, it'd "kick in" on the HWY.
redneck45 02-22-2005, 08:22 PM Lock the driveshaft to what? What the hell are you talking about?
ratlover 02-23-2005, 09:35 AM I'd bet hoursetrainer or burner have it nailed......
Cobra#3747 02-23-2005, 09:40 AM I am going with the converter lock up also
JRKRACE 02-23-2005, 11:26 AM I had this on my Grand National and yes it made a difference...
jmariano906 02-23-2005, 11:37 AM had what on a grand national? Does anyone know if the make a Gear Vendors Under/Overdrive for the ally?? It would be cool to cruise on the hwy at 75mph and 1800rpm!
Burner 02-23-2005, 11:42 AM Call'em. I'l bet they tell you yes. If you mention TQ or HP and what will it handle...er, I don't think anyone has yet to hit that in any Dmax, yet.
john@dps 02-24-2005, 09:47 AM I' pretty sure it would of been the over drive from Gear Venders. As soon as you hit the button you get another .71 over drive on top of the standard .70 over drive.

yitsock 02-24-2005, 06:44 PM 2 speed rear end?
mannytranny 02-24-2005, 09:02 PM I read once about a electro magnetic deal that attached to the driveshaft. Used on motor homes.........
Or was that a dream?

I think you are referring to an electro magnetic retarder. Kind of like a Jake Brake for slowing down heavy vehicles. I've seen them used a lot on fire trucks and garbage trucks..
Mariano...I was referring to a switch that locks up the torque converter on a Grand National...
bubba 02-24-2005, 11:16 PM LIKE SOMEONE ASKED! ARE YOU F.END SERIOUS???? IF YOU ARE YOU NEED:help:
I have a switch on my dash that controls the morphine drip to my I.V. , but everything seems to slow down when I hit it.
Jim659 02-25-2005, 09:10 AM I have a switch on my dash that controls the morphine drip to my I.V. , but everything seems to slow down when I hit it. Try stacking it with a little meth and a bigger nozzle!):h
miniwally 02-25-2005, 12:12 PM You guys have never heard of the driveshaft lockup milage booster. Well let me explain this little wonder to you.
The driveshaft lockup milage booster is guaranteed to boost milage 100% by simply locking up the rear drivshaft. The way this device work is first you cut the rear drivshaft apart just infront of the rear pinion yoke. After cutting a Nuclear powered electromagnet is install around the driveshaft and centered on the cut. mount the magnet to the rearend housing with the supplied hardware and wire the Magnet to a relay and switch system and then install the scale version of the Nuclear power plant in the bed of the truck. If installing on a passenger car a trailer may be needed. Then install the wiring from the power plant to the relay and you are set to through in a little plutonium and start getting great millage.
When not engaged you will notice that your call will hardly move and giets horrible milage. Simply push the button on the dash and feel how much more power you have with the driveshaft lockup milage booster
WAskier 02-25-2005, 06:31 PM I saw one of those once, but they didn't use a relay just a real big button! ;) Imagine having all that juice going through the dash
