Hey all. Thought about starting one on these threads last summer, but didn't. Since Nick has the survey going on this forum, I thought it might be a good idea to do now.

Try and keep your ideas reasonable. Anything that gets done will add $$$ to the cost of these already expensive rides.

I already filled out the survey. Then a couple hours afterwards went for a drive and found I forgot stuff.

So........

What would you like to see GM to our trucks, in the way of design, functionality, looks...etc. Towing, power, transmission, etc.

Maybe if this thread stays on track and productive, Nick may be able to forward the info onto someone who can make some of this happen. Or say "Look here"

i can't stand having no slection or the size of the fuel tanks on the trucks. with the short bed it is 26gal and long bed is 34gal. the truck need to have a bigger tank or have the option of duel tank.

How about non-EGR emissions compliance

I have very few negatives when it comes to my truck, fuel tank is one, another is the little donuts they call tires on stock trucks. other than that, my truck is great.

I figured an DMF replacement and an IFS would be cheaper. :bounce:

That's a law they have to abide by.

how about a solid front axle, bigger tires(285's at least) and REAL TOWING MIRRORS

tysmith
02-22-2005, 08:57 PM
That's a law they have to abide by.Last I knew, EGR wasn't required by law, it's just the only way they can meet emissions with the Duramax. I was wrong once before...

I believe the Cummins are still all non-egr, though they won't meet '07 regs... Maybe Hoot will chime in here. He's more up-to-date on the Cummins stuff...

Regardless, it's a list of wants, and that's my request. Back on topic...

Bigger tires from the factory, Bigger fuel tank (at least 50 gal), and towing mirrors as close to Ford's as possible. Don't slam me for the mirror part. If you have ever used them, you'd understand.

Take the survey at the top. It covers all the areas & asks for alot of details!!

I too am very happy with my truck, but I would like to have a few things refined

1) Stylish but real towing mirrors( The Fords are sure nice with the split set up)

2) Option for Dual Tanks

3) Built in inverter with a 110V receptical located in one of the allocated area where they have 3 accessory outlets in front and then one in the back of the center console. I am tired of having to buy 12V cigarette plug adaptors to attach to inverters then plug in whatever requires 110V.

4) For Us Dually Owners, A little more rim spacing in rear for some larger tires or maybe a 19.5" rim and tire option.

5) Optional Dual "performance" shock package for all models.

6) Optional more powerful back up lights with accessory switch

I already filled out the survey. Then a couple hours afterwards went for a drive and found I forgot stuff.

Same here, do we re-enter info with the same name? Seems like mirrors are a big gripe, Ford styled mirrors would be nice. Thicker sheet metal where you would normally lean on a truck would be nice. Rear sway-bar with the towing package should be optional. 51,000 miles and my rear suspension sits on the overload spring, optional factory air bags for about $200, I'd buy that. Just my $.02.

Last I knew, EGR wasn't required by law, it's just the only way they can meet emissions with the Duramax. I was wrong once before...

Your right EGR itself isn't required by law, but that is the best way for the engine manufacturers to meet the EPA standards. Sorry.

I suggested the following

1. Bigger Fuel tank
2. Bigger tires/Rims
3.EGT/Boost Gauge built into OEM CLuster
4. Fix the Towing Mirrors
5. Bed Tiedown System
6. Better Tranny Cooler
7. Lift Pump
8. Better Shocks
9. Fix the fuel gauge so it works right
10. Back up Camera option
11. Integrated Brake Controller

Well I have others, but those are the biggies.

My next truck will have the following in addition to what I have now with my '02 crew cab in no particular order:

1) A 500-700 (or greater) mileage range per tank of fuel (i.e. a larger fuel tank)
2) A solid flywheel since it'll be a stick shift
3) Fuel injectors that will last and not leak
4) 400hp/700ftlb torque w/o an Edge
5) At least 265 tires, preferrably 285's
6) No bull$hit 20mpg fuel economy or better
7) A water separator
8) Dual fuel filters
9) Rated towing capacity of 20,000 lbs

FWIW..

1. Bigger tires
2. Bigger rims
3. Solid front axle
4. higher stance
5. wider interior (making 3 adults comfy like the Fords)
6. bench seat in leather (top level trim)
7. much larger fuel tank
8. back up sensors or camera
9. mirrors that actually are useable

I did the survey.
They could have just read our sigs. They tell a very good story.

Ford towing mirrors, function over look in this case.
Bigger fuel tank.
Better shocks (it is a truck you know).
More room for larger tires.
Heavier metal for the beds.
VR Straps
Locking tailgate.

T-Rex
02-23-2005, 12:54 AM
Bigger fuel tank 40 gallons or so for SBs and 50 or so for LBs would not be unreasonable.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>
Bigger tires/wider wheels---285s & 8-inch wide.<o:p></o:p>
Appearance--front end that is less chiseled, but smoother, curved lines; bigger wheel wells to accommodate bigger tires; megacab style crew cabs; look to the 54 Chevy truck and 56 F150 for ideas<o:p></o:p>
Interior--higher quality leather; more sound deadening in firewall and backwall area; have perhaps two distinctive interior designs (1) basic but able to be upgraded with nice sound systems and creature comforts (2) this one is the luxury one the DVD/GPS navigation system and gauge package are not simply plugged into the dash but rather the dash and console are built around these items...take hints from Lexus, Acura, Infinity, and Land Rover interiors<o:p></o:p>
Higher quality sound system; head units with true RCA inputs for auxiliary devices<o:p></o:p>
All interior and instrument lighting as LEDs<o:p></o:p>
Lighter body panels and hoods<o:p></o:p>
SFA with push button locker available<o:p></o:p>
Better shocks or at least a ride guaranteed not to loosen your tooth fillings<o:p></o:p>
Better throttle response; more impressive bottom end performance without economy suffering<o:p></o:p>
More reliability--it sucks to spend nearly $50K on one of these beasts and look at the prospect of being stranded because of the all too common injector failure<o:p></o:p>
An Allison that you don't need to spend more than $3000 dollars on to hold 125 more horsepower---that is ridiculous.<o:p></o:p>
Cummins uses different fuel management (injector pulse) philosophy instead of EGR, which sounds good to me.<o:p></o:p>

A better rear locker than the gov lock.
Bigger fuel tank
Upgraded front end parts, more beef. Keep the IFS but beef it up a bit
265 tires stock with bigger whel opening were you could stick bigger meats easy.
BETTER MIRRORS
LT option for reg cabs.
The high end stereo should be high end.
Ease of modification. When I go to buy a new truck if its a PITA and big brother is watching and such I likely wont. Just dump the cash into my old ride.

NUMBER 1(not quite a truck option but a big decision maker)
Keep taking care of the customer. Get more training for the techs and make it so techs want to hang around! Service is a big thing and when you look at most complaints of "my truck is a lemon, its been in the shop for x days" it isnt a bad truck its incompetent service!!!!

StraitDiesel
02-23-2005, 10:18 AM
1) styling needs changed, think HEAVY DUTY truck next time!!
2) solid front axle
3) bilsteins or similar from the factory
4) bigger truck overall: width, height, interior room
5) bigger tires/rims; 265 or bigger preffered
6) get rid of all the plastic on the truck, ie. bumpers are pathetic
7) larger fuel tanks (atleast optional, if not standard)
8) thicker sheet metal, small dings are too easy to get
9) better paint job (more paint) this truck scratches way too easily
10) factory 4" exhaust to lower EGT's while towing
11) factory EGT/Boost guages
12) Allison tranny with more holding capacity

The 6th gear is in the Allison already there lets start using it. 4.10 gears to get the load rolling and the double over drive to keep the hi-way crusing rpm's down. Then increase the fuel tank so you don't have to stop for fuel more often than a 3 year olds bladder.

well i can start....

a better tail gate....take some out of the hood and put a tailgate in the d@mn thing....we bent the tailgate just my dad and i ....that is bs

and put some cables on it rather than them little things they are now or go back to the old style hing that will hold a load

refined styling i like the gmc look

definately more gears on the highend with plunty of power to hold them i too think 400hp is not unrealistic

a little bigger rubber and of cryin out loud put 5 of the same wheeles on it.....i hate the fact that i would have to look gay after puting the spare on!

i like the seating don't change it or the interior reguardless unless it is just fine tuning.....

I WANT 4 WHEEL STEER aka (QUADRASTEER) on an HD OR 3500 duelle would be sweet @ss

i don't care if it has a straight axil but a front locker would rock for us people that know what 4x4 even if it only worked in 4l.....1 more button for the locker would be nice

real back up lights that came on with the use of the cargo lamp.....or in that area

optional deep cycle optimum batteries for us people that are trying to jump start dozers:eek:

forget the boost gauge .....it would never be big enough

LED tail lights would be cool

get and intragrated brake controller like furd with some like style mirror....except chrome them

an optional backup camera or sensors that would help ya hook up

increase the towing capacity of these things in the book......we all know they can tow more than 20000

sell more than ford and shut there @ss up forever.....then you would have the longest lasting best selling highest resale value truck out there:grd:

The survey came my way too. There are a few common themes.

1) Bigger gas tank as an option, especially on the CC LB where it will
fit. If the exhaust were moved/redesigned, it would be possible to run
a second tank _turned around_ without modification right across from the first tank. This seems like a no-brainer, but moving the exhaust to outside the frame is no easy trick.

2) For all of us CC guys with families ... PROVIDE A DAMN AIRBAG CUTOFF
switch so children can ride in front. There is no excuse for offering this only on the small cab configurations.

3) Yes, and inverter would be a nice option.

4) Offer a real trailer hitch

5) Re-gear the truck for optimized highway driving. That means torque peak at the speed limit. Just all the 6th gear to the Allison and this is done.

6) Tires/wheels. This one is very complicated due to the zillions of local and state laws, plus the interaction with Federal tax issues. At least go back to the 1960s plan where dealer-installed heavy-duty wheels were available. Rickson wheels, or the factory equivalent, should be optional.

7) Add an option for a HIGH capacity fan-driven automatic transmission cooler like the ones used in mid-sized trucks. This can be mounted under the cab in the HD trucks since the frame is so high.

Since its not summer here, I almost forgot a few.

1. Make the A/C freeze your butt out of the truck. Crew Cabs should have tri zone and should have the ability to cool the entire cab. I have two sweating kids in the back seat.

2. Air conditioned seats. Heck if Ford can do it in their SUVs, then we know this isnt just a Lexus thing. Some of us do drive these things in 100+ days all summer long.

I would like factory navigation. Great for finding campgrounds, etc when traveling. Had it in my Denali, sure miss it!!
Bigger fuel tanks..
Better tow mirrors!
Integrated tow brakes! (hey, F**D can do it)
Dual Fuel filters..
Head up display.
Xenon headlights...
REAL SHOCKS PLEASE!!

The problem with this "wish list" is we are taking a $45k truck and making it into a $55k truck.......

Add a power post for powering snowplow, dump body, salter, and such. It is a pain with side mount batteries .
19.5 steel Rims

1. larger tires
2. larger fuel tank
3. better tow mirrors (like Ford)
4. wiper arms that can stay off the glass

Unlike many here, I do not want the integrated brake controller, unless it operates like the BrakeSmart.

Now, for my wishlist;
1) A freaken' flywheel that will stay together!!!
2) A clutch that will hold an additional 150 horses without slipping
3) A real tow mirror, similar to the TTT.
4) Brighter backup lights or auxilliary backup lights
5) Optional factory installed EGT and Boost gauges
6) Optional exhaust brake

I sure hope someone from GM is reading this.

GM recently had an 07' 2500HD (according to the tech's that work there) in the wind tunnels at work. Unfortunately it was gone before I heard about it. The only details I was able to get are 17" wheels and larger flares. I doubt it was a diesel either. Wish I could have seen it myself.

As you can see in my signature I have a 4x4 Work Truck. 3 things should be standard equipment - Power Door Locks, Power Windows, and Power Side Mirrors. I realy miss them. They should be stock for ANY truck over $27,000. There not quite new, cutting edge equipment. Whare is the under hood light?

Bigger Wheels and TIRES Please! Or at least be able to upgrade to them easely, it's a truck. Bigger fuel tank too.

3rd GM 4x4 truck in 15 years. Love the LLY engine and the GMC truck. I got the truck stricly for the engine. :D

The Duramax might make a good Hot Rod engine, or is it already? DAMN THING RUNS STRONG! Hate that it is de-tuned for the 6 spd.

If GM would put the Duramax in a say 1500HD or something (I'll still want it to be a real Truck, NOT a novelty), with a little more off idle torque, sporty re-geared 6 spd. or 7 spd.(more for 1/4 mile times), After Market Programer HP/TQ numbers....might be a little fun. I would like to see one of them. I would hate to see the price.

Would somebody please tell GM to give these wonderful trucks some actual ground clearance!!! The drop in the frame and just overall crappy ground clearance drives me crazy. I've had to crank torsion bars on every GM rig we've had just to keep from hitting rocks and obstacles here on the ranch, and even with 285's and the torsion cranked all the way I still hit granit...So here's my imput.

1) MORE GROUND CLEARANCE!
2) Larger Tire/Wheel combinations w/factory lift (i.e. Dodge power wagon)
3) Factory installed Pyro and Boost gagues and Exhaust brake.
4) Larger Cab (Sorry, but us guys over 6'3" would like a little more room)
5) Power is nice, but not when it effects fuel economy 20MPG ALWAYS
6) More power;) and Six speed allison auto.
7) No more DMF for manuals!!!!
8) As stated earlier, keep IFS but make it "beefier" than it already is.

I've loved all my GM trucks, I just don't like the fact that they are getting more "road tunned". Just offer us farmers and ranchers a real "off-road" package...and i don't mean decals and better shocks:mad: Some of us are bad about tearing skid plates off on stock trucks...:o:

Sure hope GM hears and see's this.:grd:

I am currently restoring a 77 C10 and there are numerous things about that 30 year old design that are much better and longer lasting than my 01 HD. First off the metal in the body is thick enough to suit using it as a truck. I don't have to worry about my elbows leaving dents in the bedrails! The tailgate has real straps no cheapo cables to ever break. Even the tailgate handle is all steel, no wimpy plastic to break and wear out. The bumpers are actually half way decent and they also have front bumper gaurds with impact stips in case you ever need to push something with crushing your front end. Why doesn't any manufacturer get a clue when it comes to bumpers? New trucks offer very little in terms of paint and interior colors. Back again to my 77 ther were at least 4 different paint combinations from solid to various two-tone combinations, not mention many more colors to pick from. Back then you could choose various options individually and not have to choose some "package" that may or may not have what you want. I think the new trucks need to have stronger tie rods and beefier pitman and idler arms for the IFS. They really need to have a solid front axle option available that may even be packaged along with e-lockers for increased offroad capability like the Power Wagon for example. Trust me people have gone to Ford and Dodge for the solid front axle alone. I think larger tires should be standard. The trucks should be sized slightly bigger especially in width and height. I also want GM to quit taking things like the underhood light off of my 40K 03 Suburban, when my 01 HD has one. Quit doing things like reverting back to drum brakes on half tons to save money and say it's to offer better performance. Pay attention to your customers on styling and not the idiotic auto critics. The 01 and 02 Chevy HDs looked great, then because so many industry buffons said the styling was too conservative, GM grafted on a front clip that never looked good. It was like the Avalanche but watered down and has just never grown on a lot of consumers. Offer a diesel Suburban again. Offer a smaller diesel half ton. The economy would be better than the rediculous hybrid soon to be offered. Offer more than one interior package. Offer one that can be truly used as truck "you can hose out" as they say. Then offer one that is more luxurious such as the F150 with metal trim etc. Finally keep the frame under the body and give the truck some decent ground clearance. Step in height can be fixed with steps or bars for those who need it.

Currently diriving a 94 K2500 4x4
1. Larger Fuel Tanks
2. Better Frames
3. Ground Clearance
4. Real Bumpers thick steel like to know I'd only damage the bumper and not the body on light impacts -2 3 kph into a wall while braking
5. Thicker sheet metal on the body
6. Better Water separators - get some crappy fuel some times high water content check into marine diesels they have water issues nailed down pretty well
7. Better Wires dam wires are so thin they break on everyting
8. Stronger front end parts all around maybe even a solid front axle
9. Don't want to have to go to dealer every time the computer thinks or doesn't think there's a problem when there is.
10. Want to be able to diagnose track down and repair the Truck without $2000 of specialty tools
11. Not really truck related but Train your techs so they can repair all your trucks just b/c you stopped making something 2-3 years ago shouldn't mean that your techs shouldn't know how to fix it.

1. More fuel
2. Better paint, I can't believe how many rock chips I have :(
3. Bigger tires
4. Factory sponsered power and tranny upgrades that are covered under warranty, like Harley Davidson does with screamin their eagle brand parts ):h
5. Quality built in trailer brake controller
6. Air conditioned seats, like the Caddy I got in a crew car in Delaware :)
7. Better cargo light(s) for hooking up trailers
8. Built in inverter

Love my truck but there is room for improvement from the factory!

I want them to add back the drip molding(Mini Gutters) around the roof line so you can open your window a bit and not have water come flying in and hit all the controls in the doors. I sure miss those.
