: Black Streaks... what you using to remove them
JC PAINT WORKZ 06-22-2008, 11:50 PM Ok I have a 22' Haulmark trailer. WHITE...I wash it like 2 times a month in the summer and whenever its nice enough in the winter. I have chrome front corners and chrome back trim ( I cant use anything harsh or it will eat the chrome trust me I've tried...) anyways I use the spray called Black Streak remover from wal-mart. It works on but they are still there. I found if I take Meguiars cleaner wax and wax the whole trailer it takes them completly off but as soon as it rains its there again... and its getting really old.
Anyways is there anything others have tried that is non-harsh but effective. I want it to take the streaks all the way off without scrubbing it... If anyone else has suggestions (besides painting it diff color LOL) let me know!!!
big truck big power 06-23-2008, 01:04 AM wash the whole trailer really good, then clear coat it. you'll never see the streaks again.
mosslager 06-23-2008, 04:21 AM Make sure you are washing the top. This is key. Remember its whats on top that runs down the side. A good cleaner I use is Simple Green Max. I dilute it 50/50 and put it in a hudson sprayer. I then use an extension pole with a micro fiber attached to rub it down and hose it off. Works great.
JC PAINT WORKZ 06-23-2008, 11:55 PM I was thinking about re-shooting it white then clearing over the whole thing. making it easier to clean/wipe off... I wash the top all the time and it still does it. When it rains it gets the aluminum off the top corners and the bolts and streaks it... PITA if you ask me.. I should have got black...
You might try Awesome cleaner...$1.00 a bottle at the Dollar Tree. Works great on our 5th wheel. Black streaks melt away...hard on the wax though!
dmitch 06-24-2008, 09:17 PM SJH is right on the money. Awesome is great stuff and have never found anything that works as well for black streaks. Simply spray on and brush off the streaks. No scrubbing, it works terrific and is cheap.
Eddysel 06-24-2008, 09:35 PM I make bio-diesel. The by-product is glycerin i.e. soap. I boil ff the residual methanol, cut it with water and it makes great soap to wash my 5'er. It completly removes the black streaks.
JC PAINT WORKZ 06-24-2008, 10:47 PM will the AWSOME.. hurt the chrome peices.. I used a product before that ate the chrome coating off.. Haulmark replaced them one time but they wont do it again...
copter 06-24-2008, 10:57 PM Totally Awesome on every surface on my TH..
JC PAINT WORKZ 06-24-2008, 11:37 PM and where do you get this Awsome stuff at?? so its just called AWSOME???
big truck big power 06-25-2008, 12:19 AM dollar store.
nascar 1 06-25-2008, 05:50 PM I use Grease lighting on my 5er and works and it shines when it drys.
drhutch 06-26-2008, 11:04 AM I use Starbrite black streak remover, get it at marine supply or camper supply stores. Looks like when that bottle runs out it will be a trip to the dollar store for some Awesome. Sounds like it works as well at a far lower cost.
paul1987 06-26-2008, 11:37 AM You can buy the soap the rv dealers use to wash them from them. I t works good and is easy on the trailers. i was told to use hot water with it.
Pea Eye 06-26-2008, 07:50 PM A trick I tried from Trailer Life Forum worked really good and simple for me. It was putting a bar of "LAVA" soap in a sock and rub the streaks. They disappear!! Just like that!!! Try it!.
gixxergreg 06-26-2008, 09:44 PM I use some expensive stuff made near me... works great, but I'm going to try to save $14/bottle and try Awesome
ryanryan 06-28-2008, 12:22 AM I heard about this Awesome stuff before I saw this thread, so I went and picked some up today and tried it and well it works .. AWESOME!! ... imagine that!
I keep the roof clean as possible and if need be I use the Black Streak Remover from Walmart. Put a couple of clothes clips in your rain gutters and that will thrown the water away from the sides of your TT.
Horsehaulin 06-28-2008, 09:49 AM Take your trailer to a heavy truck wash and have them acid wash the entire trailer and ask them to pay special attention to the top. I had the same problem with my gooseneck horse trailer and did this, no more poblem for over two years now. Be sure to have them wax the trailer also after the acid wash, both are spary on and take ony twenty minutes total once you get inside the bay. I prefer Blue Beacon truck wash.

not sure I understand what your saying with the clothes clips?

I can use anything acid with the chrome on the trailer. It will eat the coating right off the right corners and the rear peices... sucks
Chris_S 06-28-2008, 03:04 PM I am sure I will have the black streak problem eventually. Trailer is almost a year old and mine come off when I wash it. I wax it every six months with aircraft sealant wax. I get black streaks when it is stored, but they wipe off when I wash it.
JC PAINT WORKZ 06-28-2008, 03:07 PM I can get them off after using a good cleaner wax. But hell it takes like 4 hours to wash and wax it and by then my arms about to fall off. I was thinking about taking a orbital polisher/buffer and applying the cleaner wax. Sort of like I do when I buff cars but this is way lower speed. Like the old school orbital wax buffers. Then taking a new bonnet and applying a good sealer.. Just takes a lot of time...
not sure I understand what your saying with the clothes clips?
Put a set of clothes clips on the rain spouts of your TT & the rain will drip/fall away from the side of the trailer.
DieselCash 07-06-2008, 07:29 AM I found these online, They state that they can keep black streaks off your trailer/RV. You can purchase them here (http://www.campingworld.com/browse/skus/index.cfm?skunum=27731&src=SRQB). They are cheap and if they work, more than likely worth the money!
gixxergreg 07-06-2008, 11:36 AM They help, but you still get black streaks, at least I do :o:
JC PAINT WORKZ 07-06-2008, 12:15 PM i was going to get long sticks of PVC pipe and split it in half.. and make bigger gutters for mine. silicone it up real nice and that way it has a bigger valley to flow down instead of just that little 1/8" lip it has.. I could spray the PVC a white to match the trailer and I dont think it would be that noticeable. specially if i get the right size PVC... Just a thought!
DieselCash 07-06-2008, 07:11 PM What causes the black streaks? If we could find out what causes them then we could fix the problem better. On my trailer I was told it was caused from the alumininum roof, is this true? But from what I see all of yall that have the new trailers dont have the same type of roof. so what causes the black streaks?
vietvet66-67 07-06-2008, 09:08 PM Try HO-JO hand cleaner.....RV site say's it works real well.......

Exactly...If your roof isn't clean the dew, air conditioner condensation, ect just runs all the gunk from the roof down the sides...
(Can I vote now problem child???)
JC PAINT WORKZ 07-08-2008, 12:02 AM i clean my aluminum roof all the time but still does it.. if you have the aluminum screwed siding those will cause it too.. I'm just about to paint it black LOL i love the white though. I just want something that you can put on once and just wash it right off there after. No more spraying, scrubbing, waxing... Just wash with soap and water and be done... IT SUCKS
