: no power, then no start '05
durabluecrew 02-22-2005, 03:50 PM My dad phoned yesterday complaning about his truck, ( after driving mine he bought one a couple weeks ago), Its an '05, 2000 miles. He filled up at a small town gas bar (newly opened station) and after approx 30 miles lost power. any time he put his foot into it it would almost die. He nursed it home (120 miles & 1/2 A TANK) then it wouldn't start after he shut it down. I went over and bled & pumped up the fuel filter and it fired right up, ran ok until he shut it down again, then needed to be bled again to start. What could cause this? How much difference is there in the filters for this truck and my '03?(couldn't find a listing for the '05 fuel filter at autoparts or napa)
bartman 02-22-2005, 10:50 PM Questionable fuel...maybe lots of water. You should have a sample taken and maybe have the tank drained and change the fuel filter. My dad phoned yesterday complaning about his truck, ( after driving mine he bought one a couple weeks ago), Its an '05, 2000 miles. dmaxalliTech 02-22-2005, 10:51 PM Got gas?
partsguy662 02-22-2005, 11:06 PM the fuel filters from your 03 will fit without an issue, just a tad shorter..
durabluecrew 02-23-2005, 07:21 PM Got gas?
He took it in to the local dealers, and after two days that is what they come up with. The pump may have been marked diesel but the fuel put in the tank was regular gasoline. The tank had just just over 1/2 in it when he topped it up, will 10 gallons of reg. gas bugger the duramax bad, what kinds of problems can he expect from it down the road?
Thanks for the reply's

$ 373.00, thats what the dealership charged him to drop the tank, steam it out and replace, then another $ 75.00 to change the filter. The station owner basically said rough luck because his reciept just said 40 litres- $30.00 not Diesel or gas, and so could not prove it came from him. I guess he knows why I told him not to fill up unless he sees a pete or kenworth filling there. I always try to fill at stations with high turn over and traffic, had a bad tank of fuel last summer and it was enough to wake me up. Thks for the replies
dmaxalliTech 02-24-2005, 02:52 PM That sucks, station should step up.
NCMIC 02-24-2005, 04:20 PM did he pay with a credit card. If so, his merchant number and stuff is on there and might be able to contest it. If he had the pumps mis-labeled you may be able to get him to take care of the charges. might have to go through court though. maybe send a letter to the local paper or news team to see if they can air something on this. it will make him fix his stuff and maybe stop others from having this issue.
lakingslayer 02-24-2005, 11:23 PM If the fuel station had gas in the diesel tank there should be other customers who had the same problem. I'd think that at some point the station would have enough complaints that they would have to do something or they will end up in court a number of times.
