Charged system w/ 134a. Worked ok for about 1 week. Checked again and noticed the low pressure side fill valve is leaking. As it is part of this monster A/C hose assy ($$$$), can a feller change out just the needle valve inside the fitting itself? Thanks.

Yes you can. You are supposed to recover the freon before you open the system, but odds are it is already gone if the valve is bad.

If your rig has the rubber ball type of valve instead of the schrader(bicycle) valve in the port, you may need to put new caps on it. My truck was completely leaking out in just one week so I did some research on converting from the rubber ball type valves I had. I was very suprised to learn that the plastic cap it actually the primary sealer for the port! The rubber ball is just to keep stuff in while you put the cap on! Those pesky little caps break sometimes, but it seems to me that when someone(not me) buys a new truck they throw the A/C caps and the owner's manual in the trash!(Honestly, have you ever bought a used truck with the owners manual still in the glove box? I haven't! I just can't understand this behavior...) Anyway, I put new caps on after a fresh vac/charge and it was fine until I sold it and I haven't heard anything from the new owner. No news it good news!
