I have an 02 crew cab and have been noticing a wind sound @ 45mph and above. I have read other links on this site but those solutions have not seemed to help. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Do you run a bug deflector, they will cause ungodly wind noise at the top of the winshield.

Yes, but I just seemed to start noticing the noise recently. Has anyone taken their bug deflector off to see if that helps?

Definitely the bug deflector. I took mine off to check it and the noise went away. I put the deflector back on because I could live with the noise, but not the little dings rocks create on the paint job.

After I had a windshield replaced, had lots of wind noise. Ended up using black tape to seal up sides and top weatherstrip - noise gone. I guess W/S not installed properly.

I had the same problem with my 2002 crew cab. I had weather strip put under the moulding and the noise is gone.

GM has updated windshield molding for trucks w/ bug deflectors. Got mine changed under warranty, no more noise.

Same here. I had the noise but only around 60 MPH or so. I added 2 sided tape under the wind shield trim and have not had an issue since.

Nothing like the 2 sided tape fix. Done this on my vehicles since the 02 Avalanche.

used a thin bead of silicone, problem solved

I have tried the silicone fix to no avail. Would the two sided tape work better?

Used 2 sided tape fix, complete coverage from top to bottom, problem gone. Did notice it return at one point when temps where around 10 degrees, pressed it all down again, no problem after that.

Anyone have pictures of the exact area that you guys are taping?

2 sided tape works best. I tried the silicone this past time my windshield was replaced and i didn't like the outcome. so i took out my torx bit and took the moldings out enough so i could scrape it all off with the exacto knife. cleaned everything with alcohol and placed the tape on the trim, edge to edge. Placed it back on windshield and began placing and tightening the torx screws. Worked like a charm and looks better in my opinion.

Straight 8 - Let me tell you something that only another ZF driver can...........

It is coming from the transfer case. (You do have 4x4, right???)

Ive had this noise and I could swear that it was coming from the windshield. Once while driving, my foot touched the 4x4 gear shifter, and the noise stopped.

It is documented elsewhere too. I dont know the fix for it, but I think it involved zip ties.

Next time you hear it, give the 4x4 lever a feel.

Also sometimes the rubbers on top of the hood hinges will flap and cause this noise!

Sorry, should have specified that in original post. The wind turbulence from the bug deflector rattles the chrome/plastic moulding around the windshield at higher speeds, or lower speed on windy days.

I used my fingers to simply BUT GENTLY lift the moulding a little at a time while feeding the tape. Insert the double sided sticky (use 3M brand made for outdoor use) between the moulding and the windshield as you pry it up ever so gently. Press it down and it's fixed.

I wish that could be the problem, but the truck is only 2wd. But thanks for the opinion anyway, the zf guys have to stick together.

Are you refering to a wind whistle type noise? Thanks for the reply.

no the noise is like riding through a heavy rain storm and the rain bouncing off the window. You can pry it up with your fingers or get a torx bit, i think a t15, open your door, pull between the weather stripping and molding and you'll see the torx screws. back the screws out and walla, you have plenty of room to apply the tape and clean the surfaces. The bottom one will be the toughest but you should only have to get the others in order to get to everything.

Ditto on the windshield molding---sounds like a sleet storm. Drove me nuts til I asked the same question and got exactly the same answers. This site is a storehouse of information..all you have to do is ask. Let the General take care of it with updated moldings if you're under warranty.:grd: Good luck, RON

I have not had any trouble with that sound, but the whistle noise I'm hearing is driving me crazy. Maybe it has something to do with the cold weather?

My W/S sealing on the replacement was not good. I ended up having a whistle when the fan was on or I was over 45 mph. I also sealed the top of the W/S, and got rid of the problem. New W/S when winter is over.

How did you seal the top? Did you seal the windshield side or the painted side?

Well, not something I want to brag about, but I used black weatherstrip adhesive and applied it between the top side of the trim and the body (this on the outside). I then carefully applied black tape over this joint. Unless you look real carefully, you can't see it. As I say, not the way I would like to do it, but it works!
