I know this isn't engine related but everyone here has a truck like mine. I have asked this under other threads but nothing there yet.

Yesterday while driving home I noticed the ABS light on my dash was on. Brakes fell fine and appear to work as normal. As soon as I got home I grabbed my book and went to looking for the problem. I jumped the "A" and "H" pins and got a DTC code 37 at first. This is the Erratic vehicle speed sensor signal. I then reset the code as my manual says too and now I get a normal 12 code. sounds great BUT the light stills stays on. Comes on for the 2 second bulb check then off for a couple seconds then pops back on. No codes this time and my manual troubleshooting guide points to the BPMV. how to be sure before I shell out big bucks to replace a good part?

Sorry so long thanks for your help

2 wheel or 4 wheel ABS?

You can unplug the sensors and spin the wheel if lifted and measure the small volt signal or lack thereof for each as the wheel spins. A lack of volt signal means replace that sensor.

How would you measure this. DVM set to volts or does it require something for mil-volts or something?

I'd use a $3 analog vm. Put a lead on each of the pins from the sensor. It has a needle indicator dial and it only jumps a little when it senses volts. No needle movement means the sensor is dead.

Bowtie, I used a DVOM when I checked my wheel speed sensors. I set the meter for AC volts plugged 1 lead into each side of the wheel speed sensor. Spin wheel at about 1 RPM per second for about a minute and record reading. Then did other side. Readings should be same or close. On my truck the sensor voltage was dropping out on drivers side after spinning for 30-40 secs. Changed sensor and all is good so far.

I've never tried the DVM but I will next time.

Driver side hum guess I'll add this check out to my list of things to do. Has anyone ever checking the VSS in the tranny. Or is it in the transfercase on 4X4's?
Thats the code I got yesterday. After driving it today the light would be on then go off. It might come back on later or after I stopped. Guess I'm off it read the codes again.

My ABS light comes on every year after hunting season, seams the suspension gets a workout and the sensor wires break. I just open them up and solder in a new chunk of wire and away I go again. In fact it took a little longer this year, the light just came last week.
