I found this posting on Craigslist here in Southern California and the guys selling it swear it is a V6 GM diesel and this was a rare engine in 1965. If they are correct I might just have to drive out an look at this thing... Anyway any body ever hear of a GM V6 diesel back in 65? Perhaps for European of South American market?

I don't know much about them myself, but they did exist. They were called Toro-Flow's, and based on the GMC V6 from the 60's and 70's.

If I remember right they came out around 1962 for the 60 up series trucks and were
6-53s. They were also used in alot of industrial type applications. They were larger and heavier than the 304 gas engine. MattR83 is right they are called Toro-Flow's in the GMC trucks.

Actually not 6-53's They were Diesel conversions of the V6 gas motors being used by GMC at the time. Werent many good things said about them in the '60's. Then GM repeated the same mistake 15 yrs later with the 5.7 olds Diesle. Excellent info at ....

I stand corrected. My father had one and it did pretty good. Got about 400K on it before my bother overwound it coming off a long hill. Messy is all I can say. Replaced it with gas motor and sold it.

Cylinder heads for the Toro-flow are getting very, VERY scarce! Most machine shops don't like to repair them as they are crack prone when overheated. Don't know why or when they overheat as the cooling systems in the old days were quite good and usually oversized for the application.
