: Predator for Speedo & Odometer Calibration?

I was going to buy the Predator for my 04.5 LLY Duramax based partly on the info on their product page (http://www.diablosport.com/U7185.php) which said the unit would recalibrate the speedo for non-stock tire sizes. I presumed that meant it also adjusted the odometer calulations and logically (to me), the MPG calculations on the D.I.C. too, since they're all integrated.

Then I read this forum post (http://www.diablosport.com/faq/index.php?sid=144198&aktion=artikel&rubrik=001&id=62&lang=en) on their site and am confused about their policy. I've submitted a support request to them for clarification about this but am more interested in unbiased feedback from those of you who've bought the Predator.

I'd like to buy the unit to give me accurate speedo/odometer readings, and accurate MPG ratings in the D.I.C. but based on their forum response I can't tell if it's:

a) technically not possible
b) possible but they don't know how to do it, or cost-prohibitive for them
c) possible and they know how but they have deemed it a "comfort" and therefore not something I should want

I don't know about the rest of you but if they know how, and it's possible, I'm a bit irked that they'd arbitrarily call a request like this is a "comfort" when I've spent nearly $50K for all the other "comforts" and am willing to spend a few hundred more on this device. I want things to read correctly and think that's a reasonable expectation.

I'm not looking for a fast, but "comfortless" NASCAR racer here - I want performance and functionality in my truck. That's why I bought the DMAX in the first place. And to say "it's for off road performance only" - ya, right. Who are they kidding? Nobody buys a Predator and then only runs it "off road".

We'll see what their support people have to say but on the surface, the response they posted seems a little arrogant. Maybe I'm reading too much into that response.

It can't show you accurate readings for the mileage if you install a power tune because the computer is being tricked into thinking it is giving it less fuel than it really is. So it will show you really good mileage, but when you check it by hand it will not be as high as it says. So far it looks like mine is averaging about 2 mpg or so off, which is not bad. The dic mpg being inaccurate is well worth the other stuff the predator can do IMO.

I have a Predator, it changes the speedo and odometer on the dash to be correct. Mileage calculations will be ok if you don't up the power level. Leave it stock power and just adjust the tire size, everything will be fine.

On another note, if you add any tuner/chip to up your horsepower, your mileage calculations will be off. These power adders trick the computer into thinking it needs more fuel than it getting, it is also tricking the mileage calculator into thinking it is getting better mileage than it is actually getting.

There three things I dislike about the Predator, 1 - Egt's way higher than any other programer I've ever tried. I would not recommend any setting over 40hp if you do any towing. 2 - Sometimes it would not erase the trouble codes on the first or second or even third try, but eventually it works. 3 - It marry's itself to the first truck you put it on. I'm not big on matrimony . Other than those three things, it works well.

Perform hand calcultions on the your fuel mileage as the DIC will always be off with different tire sizes. The predator takes care of the rest just fine. I run the 65hp tune and 285's and my speedo and odo are just about dead on. The LLY predator can be transfered to another truck if you restore factory tune on it. It will unlock and allow you to use it on another vehicle.

Another added bonus is the diagnostics. You can perform diagnostics on any vehicle that has the OBDII port. Diagnostics doesn't matter make or model.

My DIC was off before the Predator was installed. Makes no differance to me.

Thanks guys. I can't believe you're all so tolerant of this though.

I mean, the D.I.C. should be dead on if you paid nearly $50K for a truck! And if you bought a Juice or Predator and spent $330-$1200 for those goodies, I'd expect the recalibration to be accurate as well.

It's not like we're talking about an old-school truck - these things are top end. I personally don't want to have smokey behind me one day and have to wonder how fast I'm really going after having spent over $70K on my truck. Asking him to pull over and wait while I hand calculate my speedo probably won't work ;)

Hopefully someone comes up with a better solution to this problem.

the speedo will be on or near. you can adjust to get it dead on if you have a GPS. the mpg calculations will be off and have to hand calculate it. I don't have the DIC controls on my steering wheel so no bother for me. it is a minor annoyance to some but the added power is great and supercedes it. You never know, later releases may fix the programmers and everything may work fine. And all it wpould be is an upgrade you can do to your programmer.

Caldirt, I think maybe we confused you about what is off. The mpg part is wrong, but the odometer and speedometer are right. My 285s had mine off a few (6 according to the WHP) and I set it right with the predator. I figure big deal about the mpg part, I hand check it anyway so no big loss. Pretty sure once I get it figured what it is usually off I can still use it, just remember that it is off so many. Sorta like I had to do with the speedo until I got the predator and adjusted for my 285s.

Is the LLY version a real EGT monster as well?

Not from what rickdlance has posted. I don't have a pyro on mine so I can't say from personal experience.
