: LoMax? Has anyone ran one?
DmaxHawk 06-16-2008, 09:40 PM Saw this t-case in Diesel Power and was wondering if anyone here has one. How do you like it?

Ya exactly..
DURAtotheMAX 06-20-2008, 03:57 PM not worth it. Despite the fact that "chain driven aluminum cased transfer cases are really weak", nobody is breaking the stock transfer cases.

Chains will stretch and get weak. Aluminum cases aren't. Give me a Stak or Atlas any day.

Ok then find me a sled puller or drag racer who is breaking the stock NP261/263 xfer cases. We are putting a massive amount of power and torque through these cases and some how they are holding up. People are breaking rear axle parts yet they arent breaking the xfer cases. And the 14 bolt is considered a pretty damn strong piece.
01Duramax6spd 06-20-2008, 08:57 PM I haven't shelled out a Magniesem one yet but I would feel better with a good unit from LoMax,Stak,or Atlas,especially of I was over 700rwhp.
Puffer 06-20-2008, 08:58 PM Thought mcrat broke one .
DURAtotheMAX 06-20-2008, 10:01 PM yes good call...I forgot about that. Thats the only one ive heard breaking.

The transfer case isn't the usual weak link in the driveline. Tranny, diff., then the transfer case. The transfer case, just being stock, is capable of what most are pushing out. If it's that big of a concern, get bigger splined shafts. Even the 14 bolt, if you think about the torque being spread out across the axle shafts, the differential is gonna go, especially if you have 35 splined shafts.

its actually the shafts that are breaking, not the ring gear, spider ghears, or carrier
if the transfer case isnt the usual weak link then why are people looking to "upgrade" to the 205's?

The 205 is king. All the big 3 had/have them, and there available in 10, 27, and 32 spine input shafts. Added insurance.

Team Overkill 06-21-2008, 12:22 AM So you have to run 10's to break one???

Mcrat's was a fluke. There are lots of other 10 and 9 second duramax's that arent breaking them.
Im not dogging the 205. I know its the "defacto" standard as far as the xfer case totem poll. All im saying is give the 261/263 some credit. They arent breaking and they are defying all odds. (being non iron case and chain driven)
DmaxHawk 06-21-2008, 12:05 PM So is there a certain point when a t-case should be replaced? Other than when it breaks...

you'll blow your engine, transmission, and rear axle way before the t-case breaks. :)
DmaxHawk 06-21-2008, 04:21 PM Ah, ok, no worries then!
christopherglenn 06-21-2008, 06:27 PM Where would you need 3 to 1 reduction in the transfer case? I would assume in the pulls it would limit you as you would spend half the pull shifting up and down through all 6 gears.. I can quite easily spin all 6 tires on dry pavement pulling trees out of the ground with the stock case..
So, until my stock case breaks, what is the advantage???

Thanks
For the Money Just Call up Advance Adapters and get an Atlas II. You can get any config you want with many different Gearing options.

The stock 205 is around a 1.96 to 1 ratio so the low max kit gets it a little better than the 263 in the trucks now, which is 2.73 I think.
I see no reason to do this upgrade unless your smacking the case on rocks and even then a skid plate would be better.
