: I need power :) Help me get it

I am going to buy either an 02 or an 04 duramax this Friday. Both setup the same, I just can't figure out how far in debt I want to go.

Anyway, where do I start? I know tranny work is preferred first but I really won't be able to afford that right out of the gate.

Next how far can I take that stock tranny? And how do I get to that level the quickest and cheapest?

I've been reading for a while on here now and I was first thinking about getting the Predator but after I saw how hot it runs... I'm a little worried.

Just help me get to the point where I can out run the same truck with a SuperChip and a K&N. He has 265 tires and the one I will probably get (02) has 285s. Both trucks are around 60k miles. The one I will be getting has been driven by an older man, you know the type. Drive easy and seldom. Trades every 3-4 years and the truck looks the same as when he bought it.

Thanks in advance for all of your advice.

Juice w/attitude would get my vote. Built in guages, decent performance, and tranny protection built in, will get you some fun until you can get the trans beefed.
My .02

How does the Juice do on EGT?

One other question, Would the juice and propane be too far on the stock tranny?

I didn't mention it before but both are autos.

Juice/Attitude no doubt. My EGT's stay under 1350 no matter how hard I get into it. Juice/Attitude alone is more that the tranny wants.

IIRC Juice can be set to defuel if EGT's get too high, sort of a built in safety. Someone who has one will have to chime in. I'd skip the pane, you'll be at the limit of the stock allison with the OJ. You can only have so much fun with the stock tranny. If your like most, you'll find that limit much quicker than you think. I'm content with my Quad 165, saving my pennies for that whooshing sound..

What is the limit? Just so I can get a general idea of these trucks. My dad has an 05 but its bone stock.

How impressed will I be with the power of this setup? I have been driving a 99 stang with about 350 to the ground and a 3.73 rear, 5 speed. It moves. I'm not expecting this truck to be even near that yet. But it soon will be. :) I'm also used to a 99 ram 360 auto. So anything is an improvement in speed over that.

90 HP is about it.

I can slip mine on the 125 at will.

Tranny is absolute must if you really wanna go.

That sucks.
How much am I going to have to spend to get the tranny up to par?
