: Putnam XDR
rockfollower 06-13-2008, 08:46 AM Is there a vendor here that has a good deal on a Putnam XDR 25182? I was looking at Hitchesonline.com and theirs is $159 plus shipping = $209. I am going to call Performance Center later today to check their price. I am looking for this best deal out there.
tarponguy 06-13-2008, 11:55 AM Try Amazon.com and search for Putnam 25182
rockfollower 06-14-2008, 02:11 PM Update: I purchased the hitch from Performance Center for $141.70 + 7.50 shipping = $149.20. I don't think thats too bad of a deal.

Did you get your hitch yet and if so how long did it take?
rockfollower 06-16-2008, 05:47 AM Ordered on Friday afternoon. I'll update post on delivery.
JC1843 06-16-2008, 12:40 PM Performance Center-- $135 with tax delivered to my door on Saturday!:):)
amolaver 06-16-2008, 07:28 PM are the new trucks factory hitch any better? i've got a 32' triple axle tag that weighs somewhere between 7500lb (empty) and 13K (most i'll probably put in it, GVWR 15K). i hadn't even considered replacing the factory hitch as my old '00 E350 PSD factory hitch (a class IV rated for 10K) survived probably 25K miles pulling this trailer.
ahm
rockfollower 06-18-2008, 06:05 AM I use a weight distribution system, and I believe the gap in the hitch has grown and the pin hole is elongating. Time for a better hitch.
M and C 06-24-2008, 06:26 PM WARNING
Please be very careful in dealing with Performance Center! A Putnam XDR was ordered on May 22 and cr. card was charged that same day. Hitch has still not been delivered even though Performance rep stated it would be shipped same day as ordered. Further contact with Performance has blame on Putnam and shipping is at least 2 weeks out yet. This would make arrival of product about six weeks after being ordered if it would even arrive then. I hope that you guys who have ordered have received your hitch. As for me---order has been canceled effective immediately. My reputation has been placed in question because of my committment to my customer on when we would be able to install his hitch. His need for the hitch has come and passed and I was not able to deliver as promised!!! Now I have a very unhappy customer who I am sure is not talking nicely about my service. When Performance was informed that there would be some type of comment made in Diesel Place they acted like the forum did not have enough members to be concerned about. Sorry for the long rant but you guys need to be made aware of the level of service provide by this company.
rafcar 07-06-2008, 10:53 AM I finally cancelled my order with them. I order the hitch almost 8 weeks ago.
rockfollower 07-07-2008, 07:40 AM Performance Center told me that Putnam is fulfilling orders to GM. Mine should ship on7/21.
gixxergreg 07-07-2008, 05:57 PM I have a new one in my garage never mounted for ccsb. Wouldn't fit with my exhaust :(
2fast2 07-07-2008, 10:01 PM I just encountered a minor (two week) delay with a Putnam hitch for the Solara (to tow a sailboat) which was ordered through Performance Center. When I bought my XDR for the truck, the delivery and price were great. Since then I've bought more Putnam stuff without too much trouble, but one hitch mount was faulty. Putnam sent a replacement that wasn't much better, and I've yet to get another one. This was dealing with Putnam "customer service."
I think the problem is with Putnam, not with Performance Center. PC is just taking the order and the money, but Putnam direct ships from their Michigan factory. I think they have issues.
Does anyone work there? Maybe some insider information would help.
rafcar 07-07-2008, 10:58 PM Good point. It does make PC look bad which sucks for them.
gixxergreg 07-07-2008, 11:02 PM I'm 45 minutes away.... plan on going there this winter to talk to them about a custom hitch... they're in the middle of nowhere
braddunagan 07-20-2008, 09:29 PM Just ordered my Putnam XDR through Amazon. Doing a Google shopping search turned up one $2 cheaper but Amazon had free shipping. $145.25 out the door (so to speak). I was originally going to get a Reese TITAN but ouch. The cheapest I found was $338, more than double the Putnam.

The putnam is a much better choice than the Reese titan. One of my salesmen that visits me has broken 2 Reese Titan Vs on his 2500 suburban. The truck has 130K,tows every mile of it,but trailer is a 5 ton equipment trailer with nothing on it 1/2 the time, and the normal load is a golf course mower in the 2-5000 lb range. After his 2nd broken Titan, they put a Reese class 4 on it,went back to a 2" receiver and no more problems.
braddunagan 07-22-2008, 09:07 AM I just got the tracking number from Amazon yesterday. Man that was fast! Ordered Sunday, shipped on Monday. I wish everyone did mail order business like that.
johndeerrm 07-22-2008, 02:40 PM +1 Amazon is great, i order way to much crap from them.
I opted for the amazon prime membership for $75/year, i love the overnight shipping for $3.99 :D

I got home today and the hitch was here! Man that was fast. Expected delivery was Thursday.
2fast2 07-23-2008, 09:45 AM Just curious, where did the hitch ship FROM? Performance just takes your order and gives it to Putnam who does the actual drop shipping. I bet Amazon does the same. You think Amazon has a r-e-a-l-l-y big warehouse where they have all that stuff? ;)
Or did it come through one of their "vendors" instead of Amazon?
Glad you got it so quickly and I know you'll like it. Go buy some good grade 8 hardware if they're still including the grade 5 stuff.

I will look at the ship from address when I get home today. I think it was probably drop shipped but you never know. Summit has huge warehouses all over. I am not sure Amazon is as big as Summit though.
rockfollower 07-24-2008, 05:20 AM I got another up-date from Performance Center, I ordered this hitch on June 13th;

Man you need to cancel that order, tell them to F@#$ off and get it from Amazon. I can't believe you don't have it already. Amazon showed two in stock when I ordered. That and what you just said tells me Amazon must stock them somewhere themselves. Do a Google shopping search for Putnam 25182. Then sort price low to high. It will probably still be the second item. Free shipping and it came quick! Good luck
braddunagan 07-24-2008, 10:12 AM The Putnam was blind shipped (has no return address) so I am not sure where it came from. I checked the tracking info and it just said shipped from US. Not sure where it comes from but it must be fairly local to GA for it to arrive as quick as it did.
braddunagan 07-24-2008, 10:20 AM I decided to add the link to Amazon if anyone is interested.

Fetchum 07-24-2008, 03:52 PM has anyone had any install issues with a 4 inch MBRP exhaust? I read a different post while searching that had issues with a Magnaflow dual exhaust.
Just want to make sure before i put my order in for the XDR.
thanks

DA INFERNO has the 4" MBRP Cool Duals and he has the PUTNAM. Check with him to be sure he did not have to modify anything.

Fetchum 07-24-2008, 04:01 PM Thanks!
DA INFERNO 07-24-2008, 06:52 PM I had to have 1/4" of the rear corners of the hitch cut so the duals would fit. It was not that big of deal and you cant even tell it was done.
braddunagan 07-26-2008, 10:08 PM Well I got my Putnam installed today. All in all it was a pretty easy job considering I did it by myself. I used my jack for a spare hand. I will say two possible downsides to the Putnam. The spare tire is a tight fit with the hitch. If you are running larger than stock spare you can forget putting it back under the truck. The other is more my problem. The Putnam sits approx. 2" higher than the stock. When towing my enclosed hauler I had to set my Tri-Ball-Fully adjustable hitch at it's lowest point to keep the trailer level. Now my hitch is 2" higher than need be.

I paid a pretty penny for this hitch at Tractor Supply and now it looks like I am either going to have to buy a new lower hitch or make a new longer "L" mount for my adjustable. Fortunately I work for a steel shop so getting material won't be a problem. Finding the time and energy to do it will. I may just get one of those Anderson Rapid Hitch that everyone seems to use now. All in all I will say the Putnam appears way stronger than stock. I wish they would have put gussets on each mounting point. I think this would add a ton more strength. The truck frame could use some gussets also. Hmm, looks like a future project.
