I am new to the site. Basically I am researching the G3500's because I want to get out of my current boring office job and work on the outside. I would like to perhaps start off with being a mobile car wash, paper carrier, sell computer parts at the outdoor flea mall, etc.

Anyway, I can't find a website where it will just tell me everything about these trucks. What years came with what engines, which came with turbo, do the the newer ones come with duramax, etc etc.

I found one on craigslist for a 2002 diesel. The owner is not mechanically inclined and doesn't know if it comes with a turbo. He gave me the VIN number and now I have to see if I can research it myself.

2006 is when they started the Dmax in the van. The 2002 should be a 6.5 turbo. I think the Dmax is the only way to go. We are very happy with ours.

IIRC from 95-02 the Vans came with a 6.5 TD. I think that a NA was also available in 95, 96?
Like SS said, 06 is when the DMAX was first available in the Vans.

A buddy of mine has a 97 6.5TD G3500 EXT and it got 18 US mpg the last trip through the Canadian Rockies.
My family has a 5.7 Gas G3500Ext and on our last trip approx 3 weeks ago around 9000Kms (5600 mi.), the best mileage was 18 US, the worst was 13.8 into a 30mph headwind. This is all driving the speed limit: 70-75 mph.

Hey thanks for that info. So I'm assuming all the 6.5's are turbo after 96? I definitely can't afford anything new so a DMax is out of the window. Like I said, I want to start a mobile car wash so hopefully that G3500 can haul around a huge 100+ gallon water tank, air compressor, maybe a generator and etc etc. I'm surprised at the prices I'm finding these trucks at on craigslist and autotrader around here. I have my eye on one for $3500 for an '02 G3500 6.5TD. But perhaps I want to find an Ext now...
