I am planning to swap a cummins motor in place of my now retired 454. Just got my 4L80E rebuilt last week and would like to use it if it is not going to empty my pockets. It is not worth it in my mind to use it if I am going to have to buy the adapter for $1000 and then another $1000 for a controller...

but as far as i know the 6.5's must have had some sort of a stand alone controller to make it shift before the days of computers? Is there a way to do this on the cheap? or am I better of to sell it and buy an allison or 47RH?

thanks!

The 91 to 93 4l80e's had stand alone controllers but still need inputs and sensors to make them work, like throttle position sensor, speed sensor so on. There are aftermarket stand alone controllers for around 700$ can't remember the names off hand but sure a google would turn something up.

+1 on what Tracy said.
If you could find a 91-93 in the junk yard, or for parts, pull its trans controller stuff.

I can't imagine the throttle position sensor would be too hard to adapt to a different motor.

i dont remember everything that is needed for the factory standalone but do a google on it and you will find some stuff. I have seen the info on several different sites. The other option is a pcs controller for $850 complete.
