Hi:
My left fog light is loose due to a broken bracket. All that holds the fog light in place are plastic clips ... REALLY cheesy!

When I brought it to my dealer for warranty replacement they saw that I had a small scratch on my left side bumper, not a dent or anything like that, a small scratch. Now the broken light is due to "impact damage". It's $100 for the light.

What's the procedure here, who decides what is under warranty and what is not? Is there a process to dispute what the dealer decides?

Thanks for any help .......

Did you go & nicely take to the service manager. The have goodwill bend if they want to use it.

Last I knew, Chevy has an 800 number in the manual — from past experience I can say that it works.

in your case they decided they wanted customer pay instead of warranty beings C/P they pretty much just make up a number and tell you the quote(believe me I've worked flat rate at my old gm dealership) you just go back in and try again, see what happens, then calmy speak to service manager and if it doesnt work ask them dealer code and tell them you will just call gm and handle it that way...its kind of like the surveys your supposed to fill out, they get money accord to customer satisfaction and rated they dont need any complaints to gm from there shop over a fog light

question is - was it an impact that caused the problem? If so then you have nothing to go by...

Warranty process - Dealer decides if the item will be warrantied by them. They front the parts and labor. You go on your way. The dealer then sends the claim to gm. GM pays it or they ask to inspect. If they inspect, the gm rep comes out looks over the part. If they feel it was a manufacturer defect - then the claim is paid. If not, the dealer does not get paid for the part or the labor.

Yes, there is a goodwill warranty. That falls into place if you are out of regular warranty and under 60k miles.(iirc) You get this one time whether it be for a fog light or a tranny....

EBAY has fog lights ... if it's cheaper and easier just to pick one up from there and swap it... go that route

I took the old light out. Turns out that the (cheesy plastic) mounting stems where bent because the (cheesy) bumper must have bent in a bit at some time. So it was caused by me. I still would say that in my old Dodge I could have run head in into a concrete post and this would not have happened.

Thanks ........
