: How Much Turbo Boost Is Too Much?

I think I've read that you should not exceed 10-12 turbo boost but when I lay on the throttle to pass/accelerate, I can easily exceed 24-26 turbo boost. That's with my Juice at Level 3.

Although this is not an Edge-specific issue, I would like to know where I should set my boost threshold alarm on my unit, based on what is safe for my engine/tranny.

Any ideas?

If you were told not to go over 10-12 psi then your in trouble for just getting on to the freeway or pulling a trailer....just kidding, but I've seen as much as 25 stock on my 05 LLY

not sure where you read that, but I don't think its accurate. if they were not to go over 13psi then there would be a wastegate or somethign preventing anything higher. I have seen mine go as high as 26psi just like someone said above, pulling into traffic when you need to get in there. I set my Edge warning on 24psi and its only come on one time when I had to pass someone.

some on here see as high as 32psi and are still truckin along
good luck

Id say to 24-26 is perfectly normal, then again I have no idea what I am talking about.

Try a VA Pred stack....not sure exactly how much boost I am building but it slams a 30 psi boost gauge almost instatnly....in all seriousness.....around 30 psi should be absolutely no trouble at all. 10-13psi is barely waken the turbo up even on a stock truck.

Tie her tail to 15,000# and a nice hill and on level 1 I see just under 30 psi, it could have been higher but couldn't keep watching.

A gas motor will have problems with too much air pressure. I believe diesels love air. Remember forget everything you know about gas motors. Diesels are compleately different. Keep pumping it in!

HEY!!! An H2 Kaw!!

I used to dragrace H1's in the 1970's, the H2's were legendary. First 9 sec bike I ever saw run was a H2.

Back to the subject, your turbo can stand just so much EGT and so much RPM. So even if you keep the EGT's under control, there will be a limit to boost based on impeller RPM. What that limit is, I haven't a clue.

I took me 9 months to restore it. Thanks!!

Again, and ROTFLMAO :funnypost .

You guys are a lot of help! ;)

BTW: I think the 10-13 I read was somewhere here but with expertise like what I've read above, it's no wonder! ;) I guess I'm OK with the 24-26 I regularly see, unless I hear otherwise. Now that I'm straight-piped and EGR blocked, my exhaust temp rarely passes 1100, much less 1300, so I guess no worries till I see my Allison on the road behind me.

Someone will have to blow one up before we know the limit.

We might have to wait until "Got Juice" buys an LLY and finds out.

Got Juice?

Awww geez!
Pat!..... I do not think it possible for me to blow up an LLY Turbo (mind you i would have to get one first) That's just mean!Censored

On another note, I will get my truck this week. The extended stay is for tuning, and to get the pipe routing to the CNC guys. This should speed up the release date for the LB7 Guys... talk about sacrifice though....:help:

How about 37PSIG on my weakest tuner, with 2/3 throttle in 5th gear sound?
at under 1000F?

What is interesting, is that model turbo that the LLY uses has a RPM sensor in it IIRC.

Not sure if the ECM uses that data or not.
