: how long for normal shifts after pred install?

Just loaded the 40hp tune and wanted to know how long it takes for the Allison to start shifting normal. I ran around town quite a bit today, giving it several different types of acceleration. It seems to be getting better, but still seems to be a little confused. On the other hand, sure makes a difference in throttle response! I am nearly certain that it idles smoother and quieter than stock. All in all a great product, especially for the price. I am anxious to try the diagnostics to see how things look. Anyone hesitating to get one...DONT!

give it soem time. i think the time defers from the different tunes and driving. when i did mine, i was driving from nc to la. so it took me a little longer than most.

The harder you drive it, the faster it will learn.

McRat, I kind of figured that, but you have that hesitation, or thought in the back of your mind that your gonna @#($ stuff up. Guess it's time to get on it.

Mine took about two hours. As posted elsewhere, from 50mph ,foot off accelerator, put in first gear until stopped. Then put into park and turn off ignition. Do this 3 or 4 times. Runs like a champ.

I don't think I'd have the nuts to drop it into first from 50mph, Gary. Kudos to you for doing it, but I think I'd be content to let it figure it out on its own.

It naturally downshifted through the gears. Was recommended on this site

I would give it a couple hundred miles of city driving. I have the 65 tune and about 1k on mine and it shifts very nice. Every once and a while it shifts funny if a really get on it. Mostly 4th to 5th.

Mine took a few hours. Drove it out of the yard, punched it until it shifted through all the gears, dropped it into first. Repeated a couple times and it got a lot better. Then I spent a couple hours cruising around and hot rodding it. Seemed to get better pretty quick. Shifts at first reminded me of a double clutched manual...

The dropping it in 1st at 60mph (foot off gas) and letting it down shift through all the gears to first works great. You will need a deserted street. And yes, this is posted on the Diablo site in FAQ. One or two of these is all you need. Once it learns the 40HP setting the 65HP and 85HP are already pretty much there. I have never tried the 120HP setting and don't plan to up-grade my tranny.

I have a 2003 ext cab s/b used the predator for about a year
it dosen't drive well, i bought the bully dog pup, its so much better.
allison shifts much better, i run around on the tune 3 [ 95 hp] .
i'm so disappointed with diablo on the programmer, i have to send it back to get it reprogrammed so i can sell it.

Mine finally came around to normal shifting after 100 miles and alot of different type of driving. I was concerned at first but waited like everyone suggested and one day I got in it and it shifted great. So i'm happy.

The shifts were abrupt for quite a while, before I read that if you install the performance tune and drive it that way for part of the day, and Then return to the Tow Tune, the transmission should calm down a lot.

It worked for me. Now, in the Tow or Economy tune, shifting has returned to almost normal.

Try it and see for yourself!

Another method I have heard works is to bring the truck up to 55 MPH, and then slam the tranmission into 1st gear. It will downshift through the gears until coasting slowly into first gear. I think you do this 3 times. This is supposed to re- train the shift patterns somehow.

I never did that, because I had such good results installing the performance tune for part of the day, and then returning it to the Tow. You chose!!!!

I agree with Ronadijcks

Drive the truck around a little with the tow mode on. You will notice that it will shift really bad at first but after about 10-15 minutes of city driving tap the tow button to return to normal and the shifts will be much better. It will hold the gear better, the stall between shifts is decreased and the shifts will be firmer without the lag between shifts.

Try it....it worked for me.

Looks like you have a LB7. Seems to be the opinion around here that Diablosport Predator did a good job on the LLY but not the LB7.

Ya i have the lb7, couldn't get use to the predator, it drives ok on the 40 tow, but any of the higher settings, i don't like it. the bully dog is so much better on my truck.
