: edge egt probe valve cap
chevyburger 02-20-2005, 07:19 PM i have removed my edge juice and attitude to take truck to dealer. what size cap do i need to plug the hole in my manifold where i removed the egt probe? fine thread or regular? i have emailed edge but have not heard back.
thanks
DMAXYUKON 02-20-2005, 09:44 PM I am not sure the size but it should be pipe thread. I have one myself and edge sent it free of charge! They are great.
Salmonbum 02-21-2005, 06:59 AM I wen to the Tactor store up ther road and bought a cap to screw oto the fitting. Much easier than tacking the fitting out. I'm not sure what size it is, but I know that that portion is not a pipe thread. I have it in my truck so I'll see what it is and get back.......
Salmonbum 02-21-2005, 08:50 AM The thread in the Manifold is a 1/8-27 NPT. I'm not sure of the top end of the fitting. I'm trying to find a bolt that will fit the cap I have but nmothing in inch is working. It looks like it's a Metric M12 thread.
chevyburger 02-21-2005, 01:00 PM anyone have any idea what the measurement on the top end of the fiting is? i still have not heard back from edge.
mcbride 02-21-2005, 04:53 PM I have looked all over for a cap for the manifold fitting from Autometer. I haven't had any luck either. I guess the answer is to pull the entire fitting and put in a STEEL (NOT BRASS) 1/8 NPT plug.
If anyone has a better answer, please let me know.
tysmith 02-21-2005, 05:01 PM Brass plug will work fine, and will come out easier. The fitting is brass, why not the plug? Unless of course, you're going for stealth, in which case a flush steel plug is your best bet...

mcbride 02-21-2005, 05:32 PM The fitting that came with the Autometer Z Series pyrometer isn't brass ... I haven't filed it to see exactly what it is, but it sure isn't brass. I believe that the melting point for brass is somewhere below 1000 degrees, so if the pyrometer can read 1400 degrees at times, then the brass plug really would be the hot ticket for the exhaust manifold.
chevyburger 02-23-2005, 01:34 AM anyone on this site work for edge or ask them about this?
McRat 02-23-2005, 01:43 AM Brass won't melt.
Just get a 1/8th-27 NPT pipe plug from any hardware store.
BK Tool 02-23-2005, 06:46 AM Depending on the alloy of the brass, melting point is between 1680*-1850*F
The fitting is stainless that holds the probe. On my Banks probe it was 1/4 NPT and on my Autometer probe it was 1/8 NPT. As far as a cap goes, the thread is either 7/16-20 or 11mm.
pt536 02-23-2005, 06:05 PM I just called Edge, the rep I talked to knew nothing about them having any caps to use when taking the EGT probe out for dealer visits. He didn't even know what size of cap would be needed.
I guess I keep looking :)
DMAXYUKON 02-23-2005, 08:36 PM That's very odd! I called and they sent me one free of charge shipping included!

I called 1-888-360-EDGE and talked to tech rep.
Do you remember who you talked to
I sure would like to get a cap so I can pull the probe.
Thanks
