Is fuel additives good for the engine?
I use diesel kleen but some people said just use 2 cycle oil to lube the IP.
ANY 2 cycle oil?
What do you Think?

Hello, I use the stanadyne performance additive, I take the pint bottle it comes in and split that into 4...that way each bottle treats 15 gallons. then I fill the bottle back up with 2 cycle oil. The performance additive boosts the cetane rating of the diesel, and the 2 cycle oil replaces the lubricity of the ULSF diesel.... I find that the motor sounds a lot better with the additives than without...

I pour in a little 2 stroke oil (about 200:1 to 100:1) and a shot of PowerService. There's a huge difference without the PowerService. Without it, the truck starts like crap, runs like crap, sounds like crap, and generally is otherwise underperforming. With the additive, it starts very easily, runs nicely, sounds nice, and just overall runs better.

PS:
Shouldn't this kinda somewhat be in fluids?

i've used power service diesel kleen in the grey bottle during the summer and the white bottle during the winter. i also just buy a little bottle of 2 stroke oil and dump that in at the fuel station. without it the truck just doesn't run right. maybe its addicted? :p: but i found in the winter doubling the dose(for max cetane boost and anti-gel protection) of the anti-gel PS diesel kleen in the white bottle really made a difference starting wise.

Power Service here too. It is my understanding that if the cost of the bottle of PS does not save you that same cost in fuel mileage they give your money back.

Yes, the cheapest one is from Wally. The blue supertech 1 gal bottle of 2 cycle oil.

In my case, I add some Schaeffer Diesel Treat depending on what I can get.

Just in case you have not seen the study results, here it is:

Wether I get the money back from the PowerService or not, the increase in the truck's performance is more than worth it, IMHO.

I have been running 1-2 quarts of NEW engine oil each tank, per the recommendations of Heath Diesel. I also run Power Service when I have it.

But the oil and power service do seem to make a huge difference in the way the truck sounds and runs.
