: Really HARD starting! It just keeps cranking!
avc8130 06-08-2008, 09:10 PM So I have had my truck 2 years now. She has 26,000 miles. I took a trip to North Carolina this past week. I drove her 750 miles on last Sunday with 6,000 pounds behind her. I parked her for a week and then went to come home today. Now she is acting all weird. When I went to start her for the first time in a week she cranked for about 20 seconds. She has NEVER done this. I figured it was just because she sat and was lonely, however ever since she has been acting this way. I have refueled 3 times, same thing. Any suggestions?

That's a good point. I will check that tomorrow. Does that happen randomly? This filter has been on there for a few thousand miles.

km2006dmax 06-08-2008, 10:16 PM Also check the wif sensor on the bottom of your filter. I've had them start leaking on me before and it will eventually cause you to loose your prime. I've read about alot of cases of where the gasket in the housing has cracked also.

This looks to be the problem! What is the solution?

RI Chevy Silveradoman 06-09-2008, 08:39 AM If the WIF sensor is the problem, then remove it and inspect it. If it is cracked or broken, then replace it. There was also a bad batch of fuel filters going around a while ago. The plastic part on the bottom of the filter tha houses the WIF sensor was not strong enough and split when you tightened the sensor. If it is the fuel filter and not the WIF sensor, then replace the filter. I believe the issue with the filters is all fixed now. Keep us posted.
avc8130 06-09-2008, 08:57 AM She goes to the dealer tomorrow morning...hoopefully this will be a good experience.

avc8130 06-09-2008, 02:31 PM So now it just pours from the drain spout. The truck wouldn't start as all the fuel was just dumping out. That is like $5/gallon liquid gold right there! I put a vacuum cap and a zip tie on it to try to cap it off. Any other suggestions?

Mine poored from the drain spout as well. I bought a new one and they gave me a hard time and wouldn't reimburse me because I fixed it myself. I read a post that someone took the WIF sensor off and burned the end to seal the drain so no fuel would leak. Drove to dealer, showed them the "emergency repair" and they fixed it under warrenty. The new WIF sensor is $65 dollars, so it is your call. If you are under warrenty, have them tow it.
hemikilr 06-09-2008, 07:43 PM Mine did the same thing at the end of winter. I was in the driveway in the cold replacing the fuel filter same WIF screwed into new filter no more leak.
avc8130 06-09-2008, 08:14 PM Argh. I probably should have them tow it...instead I got a vacuum cap and zip-tied it on. It holds fuel. I am driving it to the dealer tomorrow. I wonder how much $5/gallon fuel I lost on my 800 mile drive, as well as the 6 or so times the whole filter drained!

CCRanch 06-10-2008, 05:14 AM I had the same problem and replaced the WIF. problem was fixed. I have never seen it dump water or got a code for water in fuel. If this is going to be a regular problem, I have thought about buying a plug and screwing it on my fuel filter and going without the WIF sensor? Any reason why not to do this?

Umm...you would lose the ability of the filter to separate the water from your fuel...not a good idea.
The little rubber vacuum cap with zip tie worked pretty well for the last two days.
Dealer has it now.
