Date: July 22, 2003
INFORMATION
Subject:
Buzz Noise or Vibration Felt in Floor or Throttle Pedal at Approximately 16 km/h (10 mph) or During 1-2 Upshift
Models:
2003-2004 Chevrolet Silverado
2003-2004 GMC Sierra
Some customers may notice a buzz noise or feel a vibration in the floor or throttle pedal at speeds of approximately 16 km/h (10 mph). It may also be noticed during a 1-2 upshift.
This buzz or vibration may be a result of the supplemental brake assist (SBA) diagnostic test. (The SBA is mounted on the brake vacuum booster and creates vacuum for the brake booster in case of a vacuum loss or low vacuum to the brake booster.) The test occurs at 16 km/h (10 mph) after initial engine start-up. Normally, the test will not run again until the next engine start-up. Customers may believe that this is a transmission related noise as the 16 km/h (10 mph) diagnostic test may be very close to the 1-2 upshift speed under certain driving conditions.
This is a normal condition and no repair attempts should be made.

INFORMATIONSubject:
New Vehicle Pre-Delivery Inspection - Perceived Fuel Economy and Driver Information Center (DIC) Settings
Models:
2003-2004 Passenger Cars and Trucks
2003-2004 HUMMER H2
with Driver Information Center (DIC)
The customer's initial perception of vehicle fuel economy, based upon the information displayed on the Driver Information Center (DIC), may contribute to poor ratings for fuel economy in various automotive surveys. The way the vehicle is handled during the build and shipping process may leave inaccurate values in the history of the DIC.
During the pre-delivery inspection, the dealership must reset the "average fuel economy" setting.
Reset the average fuel economy setting according to the information in the appropriate Owner's Manual. Once reset, the average fuel economy will then be calculated starting from that point.
The data used to determine fuel range is an average of recent driving conditions. This setting cannot be reset. However, as the customer's driving conditions change, the data will be gradually updated to reflect more accurate readings.
If a customer inquires about fuel economy, and the fuel consumption information is not on the price sticker, do not exaggerate the vehicle's capabilities. In either case, stress that fuel economy performance is highly dependent upon driving habits and vehicle usage.

Exhaust Rattle Noise or Vibration (Replace Turbocharger Exhaust Outlet Bracket)
Models:
2001-2003 Chevrolet Silverado
2001-2003 GMC Sierra
With the 6.6L Duramax(R) Diesel Engine (VIN1 - RPO LB7)
Condition
Some customers may comment on a rattle noise or vibration coming from the engine compartment under various conditions. The effected vehicles include:

<TR vAlign=top>
<TD>^</TD>
<TD>California emissions (RPO NB6) - All 2001 vehicles
</TD></TR>

<TD>^</TD>
<TD>Federal emissions (RPO NF2) - 2001-2003 vehicles built before approximately 11/01/2002.
</TD></TR></T></TABLE>
Cause
The turbocharger exhaust outlet bracket may break, allowing excessive movement and causing a rattle noise or vibration. Vehicles built after those listed will already have the updated bracket design.
Correction
Inspect for a broken turbocharger exhaust outlet bracket.

If the bracket is broken from the turbocharger exhaust outlet, remove the right exhaust pipe (http://www.alldatapro.com/alldata/PRO~V7689785~C37445~R0~OD~N/0/89012112/94695002/94695123/94695127/34853741/100411974/34856670/34856803) (1) and install the updated brackets to the turbocharger exhaust outlet (2). The first turbocharger exhaust pipe bracket (3) bolts to the right exhaust manifold (http://www.alldatapro.com/alldata/PRO~V7689785~C37445~R0~OD~N/0/89012112/94695002/94695123/94695127/34853741/100411974/34856670/34856714), replacing the existing bracket. The second turbocharger exhaust pipe bracket (4) clamps around the turbocharger exhaust outlet (2) and bolts to the manifold side bracket (3). The bracket bolt (5) may have to be temporarily installed without the washer to engage the threads enough to initially compress the bracket and then reinstalled with the washer
