I know they make an install tool for the balancer but I have been told by a GM mechanic to just tap it on with a rubber mallet till the bolt will reach enough to pull it the rest of the way on. I don't know why GM used a 16mm fine pitch bolt but they did. I have time today to change my leaky front seal and want to just do it.

It takes a 5lb mallet if it's a sticky one.

Is that the way you would normaly install it? Just don't want to end up causing damge to fix a little leak.

Hit it on the inner ring only. I had to persuade the last one I did.

You guys should know better than to use a hammer to install a balancer...

Bill, Do you have the proper tool? Not my standard installer and metric bolts long enough are not common. I ended up doing another project anyways till tomorow so I may be able to find the proper bolt to install it like it should. I would say the mallet idea would work fine and may end up doing it like that. It's so cold outside if I let the truck sit overnight and keep the balancer inside the temp diff may be just the ticket to an easy install.
