Holly Censored , i was pulling a hill in Death Valley with my 33' trailer last Thursday when from under the hood came a Boom!!! smoke and parts came flying like the engine gave up. Then the panic set in, No brakes and no steering. slammed on the E-Break and put on the flashers. My son was behind me and stoped to pick up the part that hit his truck. it was the 'Gas Accumulator'(Thats what i call it cuz i dont know yet what it is) off the brake assist housing. The housing was broke and the oil was all over the inside of the engine compartment.
Being about 375 miles from Reno and in the middle of Death Valley I collected my thoughts and cleaned my shorts and decided to try to drive it. Removed the pressure line and the return line and connected them together to bypass the assist housing that was busted then added some power steering fluid to try to save the pump.
Want an adventure, drive with out the Brake/Steering Hyd assist. If you use both feet on the peddle and your trailer brakes are good it will sort of stop and give yourself about a mile to turn. I returned home and took the truck to Vacaville GMC Friday. I will come back and let ya know what they say happened next week.
I must say before my trip they changed 3 injectors so the engine did run good the hole trip.

CrazyRider, if there is a silver lining I guess at least you where with someone. My Folks broke down in Wyoming once and had not seen another car for hours. Fortunatly a road crew was working near by and assisted them.....PS I sure like Dixon, we have friends in Sacto and stay in Dixon to avoid some of the congestion. Have you lived there long.....Good luck with your truck!!

Yes, that is a recall coming soon. I can't wait to change those. Might need an armored vest. :nono:

Thanks to every one of you that live at this site. You seam to know whats up way before the dealers.
I talked to Vacaville GMC today and they will have it done by the end of today. Great Service! They also told me there is going to be a recall in March like you said and that I will have to return when it comes in. The reason is they dont know yet what the fix is going to be, they said. A replacement part was installed which to me means it could blow again.
Im saying just be carefull and aware because when it failed it was as though there where no brakes and it takes all ya got to turn it. Even without my trailer in tow I had to use both feed and lots of pressure to get it to slow down. A quick stop wont work.:exactly:

I do think I was lucky, there where verry few cars around but the one that came passed stopped to see if we needed help. There are still good people on the road.

We have been in Dixon for 10 years and like the small town feel and there is good places to go in all directions from here.
