An updated poll with correct catagories to help us see what the data says on the correlation between secondary filtration and injector failures. Let folks know what your experience has been. 4 choices in the poll above:

1. I have secondary filtration and had injector failure with it installed
2. I have secondary filtration and have not had any injector failure with it.
3. I don't have secondary filtration, and have not had any injector failures
4. I don't have secondary filtration, and have had injector failure

Please respond in the poll first! ( and add comments if you like below too )..

I would like to see a poll that correlates injection failure to the use of aftermarket performance boost boxes. I am in the category of having no injection failures (yet) and using a Nicktane-CAT prefiltering set-up. I installed it at approx. 13K miles, and am now at 42K miles. Otherwise the engine is stock, no aftermarket performance boosters.

No secondary fuel filtration, no injector issues.

Number 3 would describe my rig.

No secondary filtration, no power mods, no additives = no failures (yet), 96K miles.

Tick-Tock-Tick-Tock.........

looks like about 1 out of 10 so far, with our without filtration, nothing significantly different. Seems odd compared to the other polls we had on the board so far that showed 25% failure rate.... maybe more votes will show something different.

I dont have secondary filtration and all 8 were replaced @ 1 MONTH ago. I have 88K miles. I bought used in Jun 2004 with 68K and I know 3 were replaced before I bought. I hope GM's "new" injectors dont fail.

I have no where to vote. I had all 8 replaced at 72,000 miles. Installed Nicktane pre oem at 72,500. At 131,000 now, no problems since. (yet)

Still pretty low vote numbers, but so far there isn't much difference in failure rate showing up comparing extra filtration vs no extra filtration. Definitely not statisitcally significant at this point. Probably need about 3 times as much data to show anything, and then any difference would be marginal at best.

2001 with 36k and no sec. filtration and a Bully Dog Power Pup programmer. No problems yet.

ON 05 have secondary filtration and no failure (15,000 miles) - voted 05. On my 02, did not have secondary filtration, and had two cracked injectors continually fill the crankcase with diesel for 3500 miles when the truck had about 70,000 miles on it. Just had (still at dealer's) cracked fuel line next to fuel filter on the 05.

Well, with almost 100 data points, there doesn't appear to be any difference in injector failure rate with vs without secondary filtration. Could be argued there isn't enough data to be statistically accurate, but it surely shows that if there is any value in the extra filtration, it isn't substantial. Comments?

Well, as the owner of a 2001 with 99,300 miles, I think that secondary filtration is important just as a "comfort factor" if not statistically valid. I've been waiting for the injector axe for three years and no problem. I've also had some sketchy tanks of fuel on the road in Texas and was happy that my Kennedy Mega was in there post-oem after seeing the crap in the oem filter. In the major sense, it looks like you're right - your injector number is up or it's not - but secondary filtration can't hurt and has to help. I really like the 92% no failure report!
