I was wondering if I would benefit at all by adding the PPE race valve and shim kit. I have EFI live but I'm not running any tunes off of it yet. I have simply used to adjust my speedo for the increase in tire size. I'm working out of town right now and don't have a garage or shop to install guages or anything like that so I haven't messed around with any tunes. I'm interested in making as many small modifications to my truck as possible if I can benefit from them before I get guages, tune, lift pump etc. Any insight on these two PPE mods would be appreciated.

Won't do you any good until you get a bigger tune in there. Either one will prevent you from getting 1093 codes and going to a 2000 rpm limp. This will happen with a big tune. Plenty of reading on differences between the 2, I'm running a race valve because my FPRV was mangled when it finally came out.
I had to install the PPE shim kit once I installed the Race Tune on my EFI live tuned truck. It did fine when I just ran it in tow/haul mode, but it couldn't take the Race Tune. However the shim kit took care of the problem. You will eventually need it if you ever go to agressive tunes!

Thanks for the advice guys. It sounds like you can run one or the other but you don't have to use both?

i am running a race valve on my truck i would give kyle a call at xtremediesel he is a great guy and knows his stuff. the shim kit is cheap but you have to do the work to put the shims in it is just easier to put the race valve in and you will not have to worry about it again

Can't use both. The shim kit shims the spring inside the stock valve. The Race valve is plug that replaces the relief valve.

Call PPE before you put in the race valve. It is not for street use whatsoever. It is meant for racing only since it will not stop building pressure. You may end up doing more damage than good. Just do the shim kit.

Although you haven't added/subtracted power, you are running a custom tune - you've changed both the speedo and the tire size...
