: The Edge problem
bfab3 02-20-2005, 12:45 AM I just got the Edge Juice on my 2005 2500 Duramax auto sb built 1/5 and after 20 miles I got a check eng. light. It re-set itself after about 30 miles. Then it came back on after about 100 miles, and was good for about another 100 miles then came back on. I was never on it or anything.
Has anyone had this problem?
jmg343 02-20-2005, 01:47 AM do you know what codes its is throwing by chance? if you could find out and tell us we could probably tell you alot more about what is going on. I have heard a bit about people getting a low fuel pressure code. Keep us posted as I would really like to know about all experiences with edge products. I am contemplating whether or not to purchase the juice w/ attitude as we speak.
diesel man 02-20-2005, 01:57 AM do you have exhaust ? what state do you live in you could be setting emission codes .
bfab3 02-20-2005, 02:19 AM I have 4" RBP and I live So. Ca. OC.
ND Duramax 02-20-2005, 06:45 AM edge came out with a software update in feb. it is version 2.0 .
bfab3 02-20-2005, 12:06 PM I went back on the first check eng. light to the place that installed it and they used a snap on code reader. I thinks one of the codes were low turbo boost and the other was an egr code. The truck is running great, but I hate seeing that check eng. light come on.
I also got 4" cat back RBP and an Airaid drop in filter.
jmg343 02-20-2005, 01:54 PM the egr code is from your exhaust, low turbo boost I dont know about.

The Edge update has not been released in it's final form. It should be ready Tuesday (Edge is closed for President's Day ) if it passes testing. This update WILL require the unit to be sent in.
Dmax Tim 02-20-2005, 02:01 PM John, any info if they found the problem w/ the low ambient temp not working.
I strapped mine to the radiator hose Friday and the juice worked @13*.

When I challenged them about why they didn't make their units field-upgradeable, Edge (Aaron I believe) told me that they *are* field-upgradeable and that they make a ~$50 cable that will allow an Edge dealer to upgrade a unit in the field. Why they don't make these available when you buy the unit, or to those of us who are willing to spend the few extra bucks is beyond me - this is a poor design flaw.
Maybe if we all make some noise, they'll allow us to buy the cables and field-upgrade our own units without the massive hassled of tearing the thing out, finding a box, finding a place to mail it in, paying for that, waiting, and then reinstalling. Just seems to be a really brain-dead policy on the part of Edge Products. This is the Achilles Heel of an otherwise great product.
Detonate 02-20-2005, 06:45 PM This whole software issue is a shame. I am itchin' to buy there product but know better then to aggrevate myself with drivability issues. I called Edge last week and I asked them whats the deal with the Duramax's setup. He told me that the stock programming has problems and adding there unit can sometimes compound the problem. I don't think I'm ready to buy into that excuse quite yet.
All I do know is that as soon as I hit 2K the tranny is coming out for upgrades and someones programming is going into the PCM. I really hope the can get it figured out soon.
NCMIC 02-20-2005, 06:48 PM bfab3, maybe you need to get a fingers stick and egr blocker plate. if you don't want to block the egr, you can still buy the fingers stick and it will clear any egr codes and maf codes from having the exhaust.
as far as the edge goes, i don't have one but for those that do, i think edge should just send you new units with a postage paid return envelope. Just my opinion as i see several with issues.
That way if they have updates to yours, they can always alert you of it via mail and have their dealers ready for field upgrading, jmho.
bfab3 02-21-2005, 12:56 AM You guys think the cat back exhaust is causing the egr code to come up?
socaldieseltech 02-21-2005, 01:33 AM I heard of another guy around here that had the same setup, edge, RBP and airraid drop-in, came by the shop last week. He was having the exact same codes. He said he would go back to the shop that did the work and see what they could do for him. Sounds like you and him need a blocker plate and fingers stick to get rid of the egr problems. Maybe the airfilter or oil on the MAF is causing the underboost code. The MAF is seeing a certain amount of air going into the engine and the PCM expects to a corresponding amount of boost.

Because this programming needs to be done at a dealer level, AND there is more to the LLY Juice than just a programming update. To allow the end user to do this would require an entirely diffferent system, as there are programs listed that are NOT intended for the GP. Then there would also be the need for Tech help and troubleshooting when the programmer was down, or did not take, OR the wrong program was loaded. :badidea:
Without getting into any great detail about how the system works, I'll add that it is server based requiring password authentication.
