:welcome2:First of all Welcome to the site! :welcome2:
You post was not very descriptive, and the picture resolution is very low.
Are you saying you found this hose laying there? Or did he remove it from the turbo and lay it there? I am assuming the latter.
Like I said, looks like the coolant hose to the Turbo. If it is bad, replace it? Couldn't really tell, but the coolant looked green when I blew the photo up. Dexcool that is not maintained eats hoses, but it is orange.
Look at this picture, different angle. Does he have this hose connected to the Turbo? if not, I would think it has a BIG leak.

Thanks for the welcome, and the reply. Unfortunatly, I cannot veiw your pics?(maybe its just me & my Mac?)
under my suggestion- he stopped @ a stealership right down the road. he was on the road in central WI. not a good time to be messing about w/ leaky coolant lines- and as I said- he is no mechanic.
he wanted to keep rolling- I reminded him of a Ford Ranger which he sold to me for $1 after blowing the headgasket.
the pic i posted was from His phone, soo....sorry.
anyhow- the dealer found a worn thru coolant line- either to the cabin or possibly turbo- and replaced it. they also schooled him on the coolant- and sold him a flush and fill. and then gave the rest of the truck a clean bill of health.
*Edit-they said that the hose which is pictured(loose) was from an A?C-cover? or maybe the evap drain? or something not coolant related...
Is dexcool the best coolant for these trucks(I know it is GM brand- but I have heard not so good things)
I run zerex g-05 in my cummins(95 4BTA) and my mercedes turbo diesel. and in the wifes volvo gasser- why mess about w/ different fluids in different cars, I figure run them all the same( except oil)
Anyone use G-05 in a Dmax? just curious, really.
(I know where the search button is, sorry....)
well, I am glad he got rolling again, and also I am glad that I know how to work on my own rides so I dont have to pay dealerships...... or any other mechanics, FWIW.

Must be your MAC on viewing the photos.
Sounds like it was the turbo coolant line.
Search here and the internet on DEXCOOL. You either believe in it, or you don't! I am at the 5 yr mark and due for a flush and refill or change it out! If it is maintained properly it should be good for the promised 5yr/150K miles, but let it run low, mike something else in, and bad news results.

got the pics now- thanks.
I may be able to check out the truck this weekend, see what they replaced. He did state that it had been using minute amounts of coolant.
He tows a 5 wheeler around w/ it, so it's prolly a good thing he got it taken care of. I will remind him not to use other coolants.
