my edge kept stalling out my truck,01 dmax and wouldnt let it restart.I called edge, they said that since it was manufactured in 04 it is worn out. They offered me a new one at half price.I said that is bs,I figured a product that cost almost $1000 should last longer than 4 years. They didnt see it that way.

hmmmm... seems like they should be able to do a little better than that.

I had the same problem with my Edge. Bought new in 2004 for my 2004 Dmax. Lasted about 3 summers or less than a year use on the truck. Same half price offer from the people at Edge for their defective product. I am with you saying their replacement cost is too much for the money already spent. I am hoping someone starts a class action against them. I will be happy to jump on board!

Count me in, I have bought two of their programmers and they both do the same thing.
The first one lasted about two years, the second one lasted six weeks.
The attitude monitor is nice but it's not worth the hassle to me.

I do feel bad that you guys had a bad experience, but let put this in perpective. Many electronic warranties in stores like Walmart or Best Buy only have a 90 day warranty. After 90 day you are sol. I do not really think that after 4 years them offering you a half price deal is really all that bad. I had a tv that crapped out after 2 years. I was really mad, but they did not offer me a half price deal.

Sorry, but Wal-mart and Best Buy are selling items made cheaply in places like China. The factory electronics on our trucks are warranted for 36 months or 36,000 miles. I got neither from my EDGE product. I only put it on in May and removed it in September. I wanted it when I towed my fifth wheel. The rest of the time it was kept in a box. It died on me on a National Forest Road just as I crossed a bridge. It was just under 3 years since I bought it.
Ford had a similar problem with their Ignition Modules. It took them years and a Class action Suit to settle the problem. I have found that the problems I have had is the norm for the EDGE product. It really is a problem when the people at EDGE admit their potted unit has a problem and they have gone away from that design because of it. Why should we pay twice for their design flaw and their learning how to do it right curve?
Instead of some of you talking great about EDGE if you bought one of the older units. IMHO you should be thinking where you might be driving when it does decide to shut down.

I am having same problem now. My truck will run flawless stock and edge just reflashed my setup and i went ten miles hooked to my gooseneck trailer and went about half mile stopped at station for pop and came outside and truck had died. Went to restart it, it started and died shortly after did this three times and got out and unhooked the juice from under hood and truck fired up and ran perfect ever since. Going to contact edge tomorrow and see what they tell me.

I think it is pretty generous to offer you 50% discount after 3 years. Obviously they are trying to keep your business. At the end of the day they are there to make money and they would likely go bankrupt replacing every unit that failed beyond warranty.

But I can see your frustration that the service life didn't meet your expectation. I wouldn't buy from the again if I were in your position, and I think it is good you are sharing your story with others.

Aftermarket electronics simply are not as good as OE. In most cases the rigor of testing and system integration that goes into the OE electronics is better than anything you will add from the aftermarket. If you want OE reliability then flash the stock ECM and dump the Edge unit.

i useually expect a product to last as long as the warranty. in your case that was done 3 years ago...held up pretty good if you ask me!!

you paid 45k for your truck, and 900 for the edge. warranty for warranty vs. dollars paid you should be barking up GM's tree for a short warranty vs. the cost of the product

good thing you didnt buy my truck with its steering wheel lights.....

my god so many little things have failed on my truck outside of its 3/36k waranty it rediculous. (and 36k miles came about 2 years 6mos before 3 yrs did.)

so i should'nt have bought it? (of coarse not, i cherish my truck)

honestly, you guys expect as much out of an aftermarket company as you do GENERAL MOTORS. the worldwide automobile manufacturer (who has more problems than Edge does, by far!)

remember, there are people who work on lambo's, porches, farrari's and bently's too!!!

i love my truck for everything its worth, and expect shit to fail at some point. it happens. if its an electronic component then I expect it to make it off the lot. anymore than that and its doing good.

dont dog on the aftermarket for electronic failurers...this shit will happen no matter how much money you spend. bottom line.

Some people do not learn from history. In the 70's and early 80's I listened to the same talk from the " What do you expect crowd and be happy with your USA product!" Detroit started selling breaking down garbage and Japanese cars were well built and dependable. We all know what happen. People are not going to listen to other people's excuses for bad products either. As a consumer I am going to buy dependable products! I will buy USA first, but not junk. I will only listen to my common sense when I see a pattern happening with a product. This pattern with this product for LB7's has been going on for years and no PR job will change it. When I bought it in 2004 they said the early failure problems were taken care of. Unless EDGE products itself decides to get real and offer a deal replacement for its bad units. I call a deal their cost plus shipping. $350.00 is not a deal. I know my unit is gathering dust waiting for a class action.

Agreed. People expect better. It seems Edge is on the path of being a great fix-it organization with good customer service. It would be better to build a reputation for superior quality and design (and more profitable).

My Edge w/ Attitude was already on the truck when I took ownership. If it fails I will not replace it. The display locks up almost daily (mostly the speedo, but other gauges have locked). It hasn't effected driveability yet.

I just helped a friend install an E w/ A on his '06 Cummins and the unit was defective from the factory.

Damn! You're easy to please! Most people have expectations way beyond yours.
