I have an 02 dmax that I have finally paid off! I've always said I was going to beef it up when I got it paid off, and with the "cheap " fuel prices I have decided to do so. So what do u recommend for tuners and exhaust? I really would like an on the fly adj. but am a little concerned about edge's problems. My main goal is fuel mileage but some extra pep will be welcomed. Thanks for all the help

Bully Dog PMT with pillar mount and a 4" straight exhaust from MBRP and just modify your intake.

ran the EDGE on my 02 LB7 for over a year without 1 single problem. I loved that tuner! Cant go wrong with EFI or PPE, but they are a little pricey! Do some researching, you will find TONS of info

i just got my edge w/ attitude monitor a week ago, and it was making my truck knock at secound and up gears, the service department said they have never heard of that, so they sent me a whole new one, i mean other then that fluke i loved it when i had it, its easy to install, and has lots and lots of options. i have yet to try the new one yet i get it on either friday or monday i'll let you know if i have problems out of the second one if it helps

Thanks for the info, Also do you think it would be very wise to buy a used tuner? Or should I just fork out the bucks for a new one?

depends on who you buy from. most of the guys on here are straight-forward and honest, however all are not. most used handheld programmers will be fine to buy. most folks buy a handheld first, then later down the road sell it and buy EFI or something like that. I bought my Quad used and have had no problems out of it. saved about $150 too

I'd get a bully dog tripple dog. It's on the fly adjustment and it gets good mileage, but when you step it up to extreme, it moves right down the road. And i wouldn't be afraid to buy a used tripple dog, just make sure that the tune's back in before you buy one.

First of all, I envy you for having your truck paid off! There's a lot of tuners out there for you to choose from. It comes down to what you want to spend, what you want it to do, and what your future plans are. If you don't want to spend a bunch of money then get a Hypertech, Superchips, or Predator. If you want to spend a little more for adjustability, get a Bully Dog or Edge. If you plan on getting radical in the future and are getting your tranny upgraded, you may want to look into EFI Live, PPE, or the ATS. You could get those without the tranny upgrade, but you'll never use much of the power that they possess. You'll get more opinions than you'll ever care to get, but it comes down to what works for you and your new found budget. Good Luck. The power is a drug. You'll get hooked and it will take all your money once you get started!

Id go with the ATS tuner. I wish thats what I had but they didnt have them when I bought my predator. But the predator seems to work fine.

I really liked the Predator and I've had quite a few of tuners including it, Edge, PPE, VanAkken and now EFILive(favorite by far). Not that helps much...

As far as exhaust, if I could redo it I'd go to a local exhaust shop and have it done, without cat or muffler, way cheaper. Even my MBRP is already rusted, hell it's just pipe.
Don't waste your money on an intake though.

local muffler shop would be a lot cheaper. the only thing i could think of on that is if ya tow a lot. I've heard a lot of people complaining about the dreaded drone even with some of the aftermarket systems. that may not be a concern but if it is i love my corsa. it has a great sound but no drone even with a heavy load. good luck :D

I have Edge J/A w/ HOT unlock on my LB7 that I bought from a buddy of mine used. I went from 15mpg to almost 19mpg now average on each fill (22-26 gallons), running primarily on level 1, with my tailgate off, but still a lot of beating on it on levels 4 through 6. I also have the AEM WorkHorse HD intake and Jeg's 5" exhaust (the exhaust was very reasonably priced and EASY to install...and I don't notice too much drone either).
Good luck man!!

Most local muffler shops can not bend anything over 3 inch pipe. The factory is bigger than that at 3 1/2 inches.

My local ones can, but they charge $800 and up installed for the aluminized systems.

Well, I have started my quest-kinda. I went to the local muffler shop. and let him order a kit out of canada-i dont remember the name of it. I have ran it for about a week, I hated it to start with, theres quite a bit of drone about 55 and I havent even pulled with it yet, so I told him i wanted to try another muffler, but hadnt yet. On the good side of it all, I filled up today and got right at a 1 mpg increase, and i had about 80 miles on tank when i got the exhaust put on. So at least I have something positive so far!

What?! I can get 5" aluminized straight pipes all day long for $400 installed.
