: Vegtable Oil
cmturnerjr 06-03-2008, 01:57 PM Have any of you used it & if so how long & have you mixed it with anything. I work with someone who is using it in an older diesel and semes to be working great. I don't know about the newer ones. Thank you for any comments. Vegtable oil.

JoeBulldogg 06-06-2008, 03:05 AM I have been making it for about 4 months now and I love it. I get about 120gal a month for free from a local rest. FREE.

Are you talking about using clean unused vegetable oil without any kind of processing? I have been involved with another thread concerning bio diesel and I have to admit that one of the posts in that thread got me thinking and doing some research. Now, I am wondering if clean unused vegetable oil can be added to regular diesel and burned without processing. I ask this because I happen to have 15 gallons of canola oil that is brand new in sealed restrauant supply plastic containers. If I can use this without any further processing, I think that i would like to chance using it. Anyone know if this can be done without causing harm?
70 gsconvt 06-11-2008, 08:12 AM I have been mixing about 4-5 gallons per tank of vege oil in my tank. No problems so far. But it has been only about 2 months. But I was doing it last summer also.
Cougar GT-E 06-11-2008, 03:52 PM I would want to mix some in with diesel in a clear glass container and see what it does. Then maybe burn it in a cheaper diesel engine to see if or how bad it buggers stuff up.
Then again, I'm somewhat of a wimp when it comes to a 15,000 engine...

madmaxdmax 06-11-2008, 06:57 PM You still have to wash it regardless. The parafin is what will cause major problems with time. You also have to get all the water out of the vege as well. It may work for now, but be careful, your'e gambling with a $6000 motor in order to save a few bucks now. I would highly recc. doing your research first before pouring anything but diesel in the tank. Our injectors don't like thick oils so I would def. thin the mixture and keep records of your process.

I was kind of thinking that it had to be processed but I have been reading that clean never used vegetable oil could be added straight into the fuel tank without processing. I have read where some are mixing it with kerosene, some with gasoline, some with diesel... Everyone seems to have different mixtures or additives. About the only thing that I am reading that is consistant is the processing of WVO into biodiesel. That process and the chemicals used seem to be chronicled pretty well.
dodge trucks suck 06-22-2008, 01:45 AM Ive got a buddy that is running straight veggie without problems and its free from restaurants. i am hoping to try it out soon. . You have to run it through a pretty good straining system to clean it out and use a seperate tank mounted in the bed is the way to go. You need to install some type of system with a thermosat and a glow plug to heat up the oil. it will work good at certain temp. I believe between 120-180. Basically he has some sort of a switch system where after you have been driving for a little while you can watch the temp gauge on your veggie tank and when it comes up to temp you just flip a switch and start running the veggie. . Hope to be running this soon myself...:) .. Sounds promising and legal

dodge trucks suck 06-24-2008, 11:36 PM what exactly is the difference between bio and straight veggie. isnt bio a more difficult process?

Bio takes VO and chemically treats it to get to the correct visosity for it to inject and burn in a Diesel Motor. With WVO you heat it till it gets to a proper viscosity to inject and burn. No matter which way you go you have to filter to an ISO cleanliness as Dino especially in Common Rail Diesels like the D Maxs. Where I see both Bio and WVO guys make huge mistakes is thier short cut on the filtration. If you think about all the issues that D Maxes had with Dirty Dino why GM went to a dual pleat filter to reduce injector failure. The newer D Maxs as in 2005 and up have fixes those issues. I have run 40K miles on WVO with no issues.
Eddysel 06-25-2008, 07:52 AM What Basshopper said. I filter my wvo to 100 microns, process it into fuel, and pump it into a storage container through a 2 micron filter and then into my truck through another 2 micron filter just incase.
I use and make bio-diesel however because I have several vehicles running on it and 2 home heating systems. It was more cost effective for me than buying 4 wvo conversion systems for all my vehicles. Both methods work.

I live in a gated community with restrictions. Would the way your doing it be noticeable to neihbors with an odor. How long would it take to ready 2 50 gallon drums filled up with dirty restaurant oil. Also are you putting yours straight into stock tank or an extra tank. Do you have to wait for it to heat up. I noticed you said you process it into fuel, whats included in that. I am still new to this and excited and ready to try it asap. After a friend told me about this system, I did some research and I am sure I will have the access to a few of the restaurants oils. I just want to find out exactly what the different options are. The Veggie in the extra tank in bed of truck sounds good but open for suggestions.
