Well I now know how everybody else that has had problems with the injectors feels. Especially those that have had problems with the dealers. I was at the local tractor supply today, test driving my fathers 18 wheeler (long story). I left my truck idling because my 8th month old daughter was in the PU with my father asleep and I couldn't leave her in the heat. When I went to leave I had no power at all. Floored it and the RPM's didn't moved. NO power. Dad pulled up next to me thinking I was waiting for him. Told him no, that I needed to take the truck next door to the Stealer. "Your filling the air with black smoke" was all I heard from him. This was on the way to pick up a load or fish at the local port for delivery.

So I pull into the dealership where a lady walks out and I tell her "I need ya'll to check my balance rates and let me know what they are. Told them the above story. Lady ask, "Have the injectors been flushed." No, no need to. If the balance rates are out then the injectors should be replaced. She then continued that I had to flush the injectors first. Told her Bull $^!t, the bulletin says nothing about flushing injectors if they fall within the specks of the bulletin. She says, "Do you need to talk to the Service Manager." Well obviously I do. I tell him the special policy says nothing about flushing. He said it would be $85 for diagnostics. I responded that I will be paying nothing if it falls in the special policy. He proceeded to say I would pay $85 dollars.

Walked out of the office by this time saying, just run the tech II and call me with balance rates before touching the truck.

Sounds like a call to the Regional Rep might be in order!!

Sorry for the long post, but I was PISSED!!

Anyone else been told that injectors are required to be flushed before the balance rates can be checked?

No, balance rates really wouldn't be affected by filth IMO. Not to state the obvious, but have you changed your fuel filter lately? Sounds more like that than injectors. Usually they'll huff a little blue/white at idle, maybe black while in the throttle if one's stuck open.

I listened to a bunch of guys at a dealership around me b!tch about how they didnt have any work, and how they all need to find second jobs, so figureing it would be easy I went in to talk to the service writer and he quoted me the $100 dollar deductable and diagnostics (i Dont know how much cause i wasnt listening at that point. It sure seems that if they were hurtin for work they would mind a little money from corporate...and whats worse is I used to work at a pontiac dealer as a gm service tech, can use the tech 2 and know that the balance rates are off. Im gonna just call the rep, im sick of the dealer whining about getting their employees work so they can feed their kids.

I wish I had a dollar for every time I had to type this. BAD BALANCE RATES DONT EQUAL SPECIAL POLICY INJECTORS... fuel in oil or HIGH RETURN RATES DO. and yes flushing is BS.

thanks guys. That's what I figured. I am getting the truck back today. I told them not to touch it since they were insisting on doing a flush. I already planned on changing the filter before this happened (filter is sitting at house already). I will also change the oil when I get it back and have an oil analysis done.

I'll update thread if I have to take it to another dealer due to more issues after filter change or analysis.

Thanks a bunch guys.

It is interesting to read these threads.

I just got done taking my truck to the dealer thinking that I qualified for the special coverage since my oil analysis came back with 10% of the crankcase oil being diesel.

The dealer says no, that's not enough (can't imagine what is) and said that when they ran the fuel rail up to 160 Mpa that mine held at 160 Mpa and the bulletin tells them to stop since the coverage does not apply...

I'd like to speak with a Regional person from GM but have no idea how to get in touch with one. If anyone has information on how to get in touch with someone at this level please PM me.

Right now they want me to run another oil change and analysis and if the results come back with diesel in the oil then they will test again. They won't go beyond the initial test though and do the flow rates unless there is failure on the initial test.

I'm still having trouble seeing how there is another way for the diesel to get into the crankcase, but I don't know this engine that well to speak with any authority on the subject.

I'll be watching this thread to see what the final outcome is.
