Guys,

A buddy of mine has a Silverado 3500 dually totally stock. He's looking for anything that will improve his mileage - he's a contractor and going through about a grand in diesel a month. He's been asking about my truck and what I've done. Unfortunately, the TxC CAI I have installed won't work on his truck. He's looking at a Predator for their economy tune, a turbo back exhaust, and an cold air system. What are the best all around low-cost cold air options for his truck?

I am a contractor too. I also blow through a grand, sometimes more a month. I have a PPE tuner on the way, and I will see "if" it improves mileage. So far, with my exhaust mods compared to original I have LOST mileage.

I don't think an CAI will help improve mileage like they claim either. There is a post here comparing the OEM, and various after market components. From the results the OEM was the best.

I would tell him to keep it stock, and use the money on a bio diesel setup, if he has room to do it.

Now, if he is dead set about a tuner, I would definitely suggest a turbo back exhaust. Skip the CAI, as it isn't worth the extra $$ In my opinion.

Yeah, that's fair. Guess I was hoping for something that might augment his stock intake system... kinda like my TxC CAI. When I installed that, even though I was still (and still do today) using the stock AC Delco filter and the stock box, I picked up nearly 2 mpg.

The stock 06 intake flows very good, he probably wont see an improvement over that.
